1000 Hurts
In September of 2000, Shellac released their third and most anticipated album, 1000 Hurts. Many fans were shaken when they released their second album, Terraform, because of its vast departure from their earlier work. People who doubted Shellac have regained their ability to write disturbing music in spades and their new album is truly a work of art.
Shellac are a three piece band from Chicago. Two of the three members in the band, Steve Albini and Bob Weston, made names for themselves not only in bands but also as producers. Steve Albini, the guitar player and vocalist, recorded Nirvana's follow up to the multi-platinum selling Nevermind. Bob Weston, the bass player, recorded albums for Rodan, June of 44, and the Shipping News. Todd Trainer, the ambidextuos drummer, is admired by drummers everywhere for his ability and the metronome in his mind. When these three decided to join forces and start a band, they were famous before they recorded their first album.
Most of Shellac's detractors state that their music is to aggressive and sometimes bordering on sloppy. Shellac's approach to recording does nothing to silence these detractors. They have a policy of recording all their songs live and not doing any overdubs to give their songs a more urgent feeling. They have stated in interviews that any band can go into the studio and use the studio to cover up mistakes and imperfections. They feel these small imperfections make their albums more intimate. When Shellac perform live they want the audience to know what they are about to hear before they play. When Shania Twain's debut album came out she did not tour for two years because of her lack of ability. Her husband and producer, Mutt Lang, used studio magic to make her sound like she could sing because her recording company was marketing her on her body, not on her ability. Shellac are not trying to fool people into thinking they are anything but a good rock band.
Revenge is a dish best served cold and Shellac understands this. Almost all of 1000 Hurts was written about Steve Albini's wife cheating on him and then filing for divorce.
Revenge should not belong in the criminal justice system. There was a case of an elderly

The band consist of 8 members, Nathan East bassist/vocals, Andy Fairweather-Low, lead guitar/vocals, Steve Ferrone- drums, Chuck Leavell-key boardist, Ray Cooper- tambourines, Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles- vocals, and Eric Clapton- composer, rock n roll guitarist, lead vocalist. The band members dressed in casual attire. The band members were professionals, they knew exactly how to orchestrate every chord, they collaborated with the lead singer and each other in ways that wasn’t so noticeable to the audience but they knew which chords to use for every song, the band was a top notch team. The tempo of the songs were a mixture of fast, slow, to a medium style beat. The texture of the songs was homophonic and well put together lyrics. The style of the music was from the 1960s-1970s which genres were rock, blues rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz and blues.
When it comes down to it Acoustic at the Ryman will be successful despite my opposition to certain songs. This album has potential to excel because of things like loyal fans that will stick by this band and the vocal harmonies that make you take note, the songwriting just seems to connect with people no matter what the beat and instruments seem to be carried out on. These are things that make an album thrive or become a flop. These are the things that make this band different from others like Iron and Wine, The Shins, and My Morning Jacket. I felt that Acoustic at the Ryman was a very bold move because the band put together basically a top hits list and rerecorded them live in front of a couple hundred fans with unrivaled vocal synchronizations.
Revenge is most likely the most disputable human concept to exist. While many consider it a crime to seek vengeance, others view it as rightfully restoring justice. It is not uncommon in literature for revenge to be a recurring idea, due to its controversial nature. Ray Bradbury’s “The Utterly Perfect Murder” follows the journey of a man named Doug to claim the life of a man who had tormented him in his childhood years. Similarly, the narrator of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”, Montresor, seeks revenge on his friend Fortunato and eventually kills him. Doug and Montresor’s motives and mental state are very similar, yet the outcomes of the execution of their revenge differ greatly.
The pursuit of revenge is not always the right choice to make. As this theme is shown in the short stories written by Edgar Allen Poe and William Faulkner. The two main characters of the stories have hate fueling their motivation to commit cruel acts against others. In the story “Cask of Amontillado”, written by Edgar Allen Poe, Montresor kills a man simply for insulting his family name. In the story “Barn Burning”, written by William Faulkner, Abner takes out his anger on others by destroying property and punishing the world for his poor lifestyle. Abner and Montresor seek revenge for different reasons; however, they do it to honor themselves. These actions will lead to their impending demise.
“Metallica drew upon punk and early 1980’s British metal styles for their first album” (“Metallica-Britannica”). During early recordings for Kill Em’ All, the band kicked out lead guitarist Dave Must...
Revenge is medicine to most people or it is an ongoing circle. When a person is betrayed or inflicted pain it is a natural reaction to think of a way to cause the same pain back. Revenge is part of everyday life and many find pleasure through it. Although it may be the natural reaction and could be someone’s gut feeling that is telling him or her to do it is almost never right and does not pay off in the end. Revenge is a ongoing circle due to the fact that when someone does something wrong to a person that person will want to do it right back and keep going back and forth until justice intervenes or someone realizes it is morally wrong. Just like the saying “an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind” is the
There possibly isn't an album in history that is as genre defining as Nirvana's Nevermind. Released in 1991, it single handedly was responsible for the birth of what became to be known as grunge and has gone on to sell over 10 million copies in the United States alone (Stuessy, Joe). It reached number 1 in 1991 and was the first album to bring Seattle grunge to the mainstream audience (Stuessy, Joe). Nevermind is a mix of slow, dark songs and fast paced grunge rock songs. With its grinding guitars, pounding drums, and lead singer, Kurt Cobain's distinctive voice, Nevermind found a distinctive way to fuse alternative punk with 70's rock (Nirvana, Nevermind).
... in Amityville in 2009 when they opened for Rise Against. Dan Campbell, the singer, gave everyone a free copy of their album just to get their name out there. They are now at the peak of the pop punk genre by selling thousands of albums, playing the main stage at Warped Tour and headlining a show at Best Buy Theater this April. Bands that make this sacrifice and eventually make it to a successful level deserve the natural rush music gives them.
It is the idea of revenge that sends a cool shiver down the spines of justly men when they begin to question as to why someone would stoop to such a level. But yet it is still more than an idea for revenge has been carried out in various forms along all the eras of history side-by-side of that of novels and tragedies. Even so, revenge is still a dark scheme; an evil plague of the mind per se. It is such a plague that will turn even the greatest persons of the brightest, optimistically capable of minds into lowly, as well as lonely, individuals. Thus, revenge will, and can, only end in despair and agony of the mind. Therefore, provided that all that has been said is true, revenge would appear quite unseemly to the observant onlooker. However, taking an in-depth insight into revenge you can uncover quite a compelling feature, which is best summed up into one word. Pride. Pride is the one clear motivational proprietor needed to push a protagonist into the downward spiral of personal vendetta. Without pride, revenge is no more than a mindless massacre of flesh and bone ending in the obliteration of any hope for reconciliation.
... always justice, and there is usually more emotion involved in the revenge and thus the revenge hurts more than the original crime hurt.
When you read a book or watch a movie, you want it to capture your attention immediately. Revenge is one of those themes that can easily be used grasp the audience. It is always an exhilarating theme to read about because it can bring out so much in a character. It will often be used to bring out the worst in people. It can make people go mad, and in fact it can completely consume them. It can bring people to an extreme point in life, and this is what makes it so fascinating. In the movie, Straw Dogs, the protagonist, Dustin Hoffman, goes to such an extreme. After Hoffman’s wife is taken advantage of, he begins to slip into the abyss of madness. He wants revenge, and then it escalates quickly into a bloody battle. Older novelists also often used revenge to show the extremes of people’s personality.
Revenge occurs everywhere in the present and some still seek revenge for past wrong doings. Because of the desire to fulfil the need for revenge, it can lead to an even bigger problem and can globally affect everyone. It can be difficult to determine when revenge can be justified but in my perspective, revenge can’t ever be justified since it can hurt and include other people that were caught in the problem. The two stories demonstrated that the idea of seeking revenge can consume your life and is very serious. It is best for us to let go of a grudge instead of making the other person suffer as much as you did as it is the mature decision. Revenge can be dangerous and immoral and people will go to any limit to seek revenge.
Revenge was being classified as a sin in the bible, and is looked down upon in society, is still being presented by the media. The media is controlling the way in which we look at revenge, as it is constantly praised unintentionally with the amount of times it is showcased on the news and in movies, when in reality, it is probably the worse case of action.
