The world is getting smaller. It is a phrase that everyone uses and hears frequently nowadays. There is some truth to it. Even though the world is not physically getting smaller, the way we do business and the influences on each countries' cultures, are getting more and more significant daily. Countries are developing trade and financial alliances. For example, Europe has the European Union, which has a tremendous impact on the trade within the European countries. United States has NAFTA (North American Free Trade Association). This includes, United States, Canada and Mexico. However, Australia geographically is so far from any other continents, is it able to benefit from the globalization that other countries enjoy? It is easy to forget Australia is close to Asia, and at this point Australia has free trade agreement with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and several other countries.
The world "Globalization" is relatively new in the collective vocabulary. This expression appeared at the turn of Sixties and Seventies. The key feature of this process is the interconnectedness of the world. Today, trade, financial activity, cultural effect extends to the entire planet. The geographical location, definitely, puts a significant influence on strengthening relationships between countries, and developing interdependence relationships between participants.
Of course, when we talk about globalization, we do not mean the effect American movies, music, which significantly altered the culture everywhere in the world. Globalization includes the corporations from around the world investing, opening up businesses, expanding into new markets. Globalization is currently shaping the world in which we live. It is based on the precept that the world is becoming a smaller place to live. This "shrinkage", so to speak, does not refer to actual land area, but rather to the space that exists between the differing peoples of the world. Globalization occurs through the unification of different nations around the world by either blending socially, culturally, politically, or economically. Social , Cultural, and Political Globalization occur when people from different nations, cultures, or walks of life come into contact with one another, and in the process, close the gap that exists between different groups of people or differing ideologies. These types of Globalization have been able to occur due to certain advancements in communication technologies that have made it possible for people all over the world to be able to communicate more easily and on a frequent basis ( Allen and Hamnet pg 59).
Australia has had one of the most outstanding economies of the world in recent years - competitive, open and vibrant. The nation’s high economic performance stems from effective economic management and ongoing structural reform. Australia has a competitive and dynamic private sector and a skilled, flexible workforce. It also has a comprehensive economic policy framework in place. The economy is globally competitive and remains an attractive destination for investment. Australia has a sound, stable and modern institutional structure that provides certainty to businesses. For long time, Australia is a stable democratic country with strong growth, low inflation and low interest rate.(Ning)
Globalization, a contested concept among leading theorists in its definition, chronology, and measurement of effects, is almost certainly of a multidimensional nature if such theorists’ perspectives are all taken equally into consideration. The broad phenomenon of globalization can therefore be scrutinised more closely by separation and analysis of individual dimensions, such as its political, economic, cultural and ecological dimensions. This approach, while allowing for a more focused examination of the causes and effects of globalization within a single dimension, serves to highlight the interconnectedness of each dimension. The following essay will expose the complex interconnection between the political, economic and cultural dimensions of globalization through the analysis of a contemporary issue, the Northern Territory National Emergency Response (commonly known, and hereafter referred to, as the Northern Territory Intervention, which encompasses both the NTNER bill and subsequent legislation). An argument will be made that proponents of neoliberalism need to be held accountable to the inevitable effects of imposing policy, through political globalization, on the culture of Indigenous Australians, while paving the way for economic globalization, given the interconnectedness of the dimensions of globalization, and the virtually inseparable nature of its effects.

The term globalization has many definitions as some describe it as the “increased connectedness of people from different cultural backgrounds (Carrino, 2012), while others say that it is the “world-wide diffusion of practices, expansions of relations across continents, organization of social life on a global scale, and growth of a shared global consciousness” (Lechner, 2005). The globalisation of Australian business has significantly advanced through recent years as the global economy has progressed. Some of the most prominent driving factors of globalisation include the technological advancements that have allowed for the expansion of the Australian market along with the establishment of free trade agreements with different nations. Benefits of Free Trade Agreements within the Australian Economy include higher quality products for Australian consumers and the low cost of exports for areas of Australian business. However, the changes to Australian businesses have also created severe consequences, such as a rise in the Australian unemployment rate. The different factors and consequences associated with the globalisation of Australian business have continued to allow it to progress and advance with the modern economy.

The globalization of markets, globalization of production and technological progress are three main reasons to promote the globalization (Edgar, n.d.). The globalization of markets is different independent national markets are merged into a global market (Hill, Cronk, & Wickramasekera, 2010). The formation of market globalization led many countries to open their markets and reduce tariffs and trade barriers, so that the product can flow easer in the world. For example, China had reduce tariffs on imported consumer goods earlier this year and the Chinese government has signed the free-trade agreements with Australia, the Chinese government want to promote domestic demand through these policies (Duncan, 2015). The technological progress is an indispensable part for the economy globalization. Because the rapid development of technological in information dissemination and communication, it not only reduce the cost of commodity circulation and create more export opportunities, but also exploit some new products and service in the world markets (Hibbert, 2000). The improvement of technology creates the conditions for the globalization of production, which is allowed to produce many goods in different countries. Therefore, some developing countries can benefit from significant amount of foreign direct investment form develop countries. The foreign company can corporate with local company to develop product and those multinational companies can exploit local markets. Globalization’s history is extremely diversified and began during the beginning of civilization. Now we live in a world that is constantly evolving, demanding people to use resources in locations that are very difficult to obtain certain resources. This could make it completely impossible to operate in these specific parts of the world. However, globalization allows people across the world to acquire much needed resources. Globalization creates the opportunity for businesses to take advantage and exploit the ability to take part of their business to a different country. Nevertheless, globalization is part of today’s society and will be involved in virtually all situations.

Australia is one of the world's developed countries. It has busy cities, modern factories, and highly productive farms and mines. Australia is the world's leading producer and exporter of wool and bauxite. It also produces and exports large amounts of other minerals and farm goods. The income from these exports has made it possible for most of the people of Australia to have a high standard of living. In the past, Britain was Australia's most important trading partner.
Globalisation is a very complex term with various definitions, in business terms, “globalization describes the increasingly global nature of markets, the tendency for transnational businesses to configure their business activities on a worldwide basis, and to co-ordinate and integrate their strategies and operations across national boundaries” (Stonehouse, Campbell, Hamill and Purdie, 2004, p. 5).
Globalization plays a massive part in my life as it does in everyone’s lives. Every day the world is getting smaller, between technological improvements and peoples interest in these technologies it is easy to see why this is happening. In this essay I have only shortly touch upon some of the places where globalization has affected my everyday life. From shopping as Asda to meeting people on the other side of the world to discuss my dissertation ideas globalization has had a positive affect on my life. The fact that I can walk down a street in Coleraine or Sydney and see similar shops and food outlets is a positive thing in how our lives are intertwined through out the world.
