We know his story. He is Atticus Finch, a father to his girl who wonders about the meanings of life, about the people interacting in a social space, about the difference between good and evil. He is Arthur Weasley, a father to his seven kids--six wizards and a witch--who, even less fortunate when it comes to material wealth--works hard to raise his kids with different issues facing each of their adulthood. He is King Lear, a Shakespearean father who reminds us about the follies of mankind and how to deal with them as a man. Either fictional or real life situations, fatherhood is never perfect. But it is important to stand up as a father to the kids. Being a father requires both material and spiritual stability. One has to be ready. Otherwise, …show more content…
Father becomes a father if he serves well as a model to his child. When a father realizes his impact to his kids as a model, everything else will follow. They will start being present to their children. A father is a father first. Second, a friend. A father would have a hard time seeking his kids' space and dimension if he did not act as a friend. In order to see what his kids' would love to learn about things around him, fathers have to act like their casual friends, sharing stories about life, exchanging information about the most important thing about adulthood. In short, a father has to be present. The paternal presence has been discussed in an article in Fatherly, which stresses the idea of "The Father Effect." This means that a father can create a great impact on their kids if he actively participates with them. Participation is key for the child to feel a father's presence, and it has to be done actively. The discussion further explained that the father's presence is not about quantity, but of quality. It is not a case if a father sees his kid once in a while. Making sure that a quality time is provided to the kids is enough to establish this paternal presence. How fatherly presence
The definition of a good father is as individual as the individuals involved themselves. A good father is able to support his children’s strengths, along with being able to help them overcome their weaknesses. He is able to do this without appearing to be a know-it-all. The ability to show by example how to live life, while not being afraid to make mistakes and not to be perfect all the time are also very important characteristic.
“The key to being a good dad...well, sometimes things work out just the way you want. Sometimes they don't. But you gotta hang in there. Because when all is said and done, 90% of being a dad is just showing up” ( Modern Family). Fathers aren’t perfect, but they can be the best role models to their children by simply being there for them like Atticus. He shows how to be a great father in the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. While Atticus makes mistakes as a parent, he educates his children with wisdom they’ll use throughout their lives. Atticus teaches his children how to see from different point of views, violence is never the answer, and what real courage means.
The role of a father is more than just another parent at home (Popenoe, 1996). Having a father, the male biological parent in a child’s life is important because it brings a different type of parenting that cannot be replicated by anyone else (Stanton, 2010). Fathers who are present and active in a child’s life provide great benefits to a developing child (Popenoe, 1996). Having a father brings a different kind of love. The love of the father is more expectant and instrumental, different from the love of a mother (Stanton, as cited in Pruett, 1987).
Fathers have the tendency to have a greater influence on the child than the mother. When children know that they have someone that genuinely loves them, they tend to be happier and more easily satisfied in life. When children do not feel the love from their parents, they become aggressive and unstable emotionally. Without parents or their support, children begin to feel as if they are not good enough and that nobody wants them. But when it comes to rejection from a father, “Delinquency, depression, and substance abuse are all more closely linked to dad’s rejection”(Pappas), which shows how much more a father is needed in a child’s life. Research shows that “fathers who are most effective are those who listen to their children, have a close relationship, set appropriate rules, but also grant appropriate freedom”(Pappas), which was lacked in Fences and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. A father’s presence is important because, if someone has a son or daughter and is not there for his children or if they are there and they are doing bad things in front of them, that makes the son believe it is fine to have children and not come around or it is all right to abuse
Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
good parenting abilities are vital to maintain a viable relationship with children. The value of a father in
Dr. Haim Ginott, a renowned Psychologist, mentor and a teacher once remarked, “Children are like wet cement; whatever falls on them makes an impression.” Thus, the effects of absent fathers on children may in fact, shape their perception of the world around them. Even though developing a stronger relationship with one parent is an effect of absenteeism fathers, it also comes with the challenges of engaging in early sexual activities, diminished cognitive development and poor school performance, which are effects exhibited by many daughters.
This normalcy can be negative or positive and is normally hindered by the presence of supportive and engaging parents first and foremost. Children learn from their surroundings because it is what they grow accustomed to. Children do not know anything else other than what they were taught and trained to know as being normal in their lives and this is where they gain their worldview of what to perceive. That is why it is important to have a father present in the household because it vital to a child’s development. Studies show that if a child 's father is affectionate, supportive, and involved, he can contribute greatly to the child 's cognitive, language, and social development, as well as academic achievement, a strong inner core resource, sense of well-being, good self-esteem, and authenticity (Gross 2014). Therefore, having a father in the home is beneficial to the child’s development and wellbeing. However, there are some fathers who are in the child’s life, but really they are not present for the child. An absent father can mean different things like being physically there, but not actually being involved in the care of the child. It can also mean that the father is not being present for the child when they know that they are the child’s father. It can also be the result a father’s death,
A father is someone who protects, loves, supports and raises his children, whether they are biologically related or not. Every single person living on the Earth has a biological father. These biological fathers are supposed to take the responsibility of being a father because they did help bring a child into this world. One of the main responsibilities of a father is providing the child with the necessities of life, which include food, shelter, and clothes. Not only is a father responsible for the physical aspect but the emotional aspect as well. Children need to feel loved, cared for, and emotional support from their parents. A child needs to be reassured, so a father must show his affection, both physically and emotionally. A father needs to be involved in his children’s life. He needs to be a problem solver, playmate, provider, preparer, and he has to have principles. A father has to pr...
The role of a father in his child’s life extends past the knowledge of far too many, and can oftentimes be eclipsed by the role of the mother. Although the mother’s role is essential and greatly valued in a child’s life and development, the father plays a significant role as well. No mother can fill the father’s place in a child’s heart, for fathers nurture and play differently than a mother. Several studies show that an attentive and highly involved father is critical, especially in the early stages of a child’s life. The absence of a father during this stage can lead to “impaired social and behavioral abilities in adults” (Robert, 2013).
The research supports the theory of a father’s absence having negative effects on the child’s life. Nearly one third of
By a definition found on the internet a father is a man who despite not giving birth to you still loves his child just as much as the mother does. Fathers are sometimes seem as more understanding and laid back and seem to have easier resolutions to their child’s problems. They typically tell the child everything will be okay and to tough it out and send the child on to continue what they were doing. However, sometimes he can be hotheaded and punish you faster than mom. Sometimes men are joked about as being big children, which can sometimes amount to a better relationship between the father and child. A lot of children go to dad for the fun stuff like money or going to a friends house because he will give into their begging and pleading easier than their mother
... reflected with the likelihood the father is involved and spend time with their children and to have children who are psychologically and emotionally healthier (Parke). Also the mother and father is more responsive, affectionate, and confident with their infants; better know how in dealing with defiant toddlers; and better advising, connecting, and providing emotional support to their teenagers (Parke). Studies have shown children with involved, caring fathers have better educational outcomes. For instance, a study shows that fathers who are involved, nurturing, and playful with their children tend to have children with higher IQs, better linguistic and cognitive capacities (Parke). Lastly, the children through their adulthood are more patient and can handle the stresses and frustrations associated with schooling better than children with less involved fathers (Parke).
Another way parents interact with their child that is different is fathers play more with their children and are more hands on while playing. In an online article “Why Fathers are Important.” By Joan E. Lefebvre, Joan states “Fathers use more physical contact and spend a larger portion of time playing 40 percent versus 25 percent for mothers.” Dads are always picking their kids up by their feet, rolling around on the ground with them, and playing catch with them. When moms play they are more careful, using children’s toys to play. Moms are also more of a crafty type they do crafts with their children or color, so t...
A father have a big impact of their child life because its nothing like having a father to get that man part of your life. Although some believe that fathers do not play an important role, Fathers are vital in their children’s lives. Some people believe fathers don’t play major role.
