The oceans are the most important food providers on Earth, with its fish being the main source of protein for nearly 1.2 billion people, but the issue of overfishing causes fishermen to return home empty-handed more often. To overfish is to “deplete the stock of fish in a body of water by excessive fishing” (Oxford Dictionaries Web). Overfishing has begun around 1950, and all fish species may collapse within the next 50 years according to some scientists (Mosbergen Web). The depletion of fish species is caused by industrial fishing boats that install on average 1.4 billion hooks annually, with a fish serving as bait at the end of each hook. Likewise, these boats may throw nets that can catch 500 tons of fish, with openings of up to 23 000 meters squared.
The spread of Asian carp could be fatal to our native fish species (Barbara A. Somervill 24). The term "Asian carp" has been used to include the species that pose an immediate threat to the wildlife. While the Michigan Department of Natural Resources pose a significant threat to the biological community and recreational opportunities, in the Great Lakes region it is especially concerned with the bighead and silver carp. There are four types of carp known as bighead, black, silver and big head and silver carp can get up to one hundred pounds and grow up to five feet. People who fish these endangered fish will have their jobs saved. This will also produce more fish for the individuals who have fish as their main source of food in their diet. The definition of overfishing is to fish so heavily that you wear out the supply of edible fish. The amount of fish that are fit for human consumption in our waters is decreasing because of our world’s overfishing problem. In a study done by international team of scientists, by 2048 almost all edible fish in the ocean will be gone (“Go Fish”).
The Asian carp pose a serious threat to the economy of Michigan and neighboring states as well as the natural environment. If the government does not act quickly then these terrifying fish will invade the Great Lakes. Asian carp were first imported to the United States from Southeast Asia in the 1970’s in order to filter pond water in Arkansas. Silver carp can grow up to thirty-nine inches and sixty pounds.
The control and management of Asian carp in North America is an issue that numerous state and federal agencies have been trying work out ever since the first case of Asian carp being in the waterways of North America. Asian carp are a very difficult species of fish to manage and control because of their fast reproduction rate and that there are no predators in the North American waterways to reduce numbers. These fish are damaging native fish's food sources and habitat. More recently, Asian carp are threatening to invade the Great Lakes which would cause drastic economic and ecological problems. The fight for control of Asian carp is an ongoing battle and one that needs to be solved before it's to late.

Sharks have existed in our world for over 400 million years, if they were to suddenly disappear for industrial purposes, much problems will be encountered throughout the world. We must preserve the lives of Sharks, for many reasons most importantly that shark hunting is morally wrong, it may provide economic failure in a given time, and it may serve a critical unbalance of a healthy environmental state. As I mentioned earlier, Sharks maintain the balance of the entire marine ecosystem! If the ocean’s ecosystem were to collapse, it would greatly affect life even on the surface. Sharks tend to eat fish who are much slower and sickly therefore they keep the population of fish in a healthier state.
Some nets are designed so the holes in the nets are large enough for the head of the fish to fit through, and then the mesh gets caught in the fish's gills. Others are designed to circle around a school of fish and then is drawn shut. New technologies have developed factory stern trawlers which easily haul netloads of up to 100 metric tons of fish. However, when catching the salmon, fisherman use pound nets to catch the fish on their way to their spawning grounds.
