Why aren’t we learning How would you feel if your best friend shot you? BANG! It may sound like a cliche but it is a reality. In a single year there have been over 350 mass shootings . According to a BBC article 60% of the US’s murders are a result of firearms (Guns in the US). Most states’ laws state that handguns can be bought by anyone over the age of 21, but long guns, including assault rifles, the legal age to buy is 18. Thomas Jefferson was quoted saying,“For an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” To almost everyone that makes gun laws seem somewhat reasonable, but do you think we need high magazine assault rifles to protect our homes our ourselves? Some of the world’s largest corporations have changed their gun restriction regulations. Dick’s, Walmart, and Kroger have all decided to stop selling assault rifles, and accessories fitted for it. Kroger has also raise the legal age to by long guns to 21, three years older than the legal minimum. Since this change in ruling, guns sold from Kroger, Walmart, and Dick’s have had limited problematic acts of violence. (Gajanan). Trump’s statements on gun control has changed throughout current weeks, he does have some claims that he supports gun control. In a conversation with congress members who were about to vote on a very important gun control legislation for a school safety pack and more strenuous background checks to obtain a gun license (Abramson). Even Taylor Swift has taken the role of the activist and has done a lot for gun control advocates. She has organized and been apart of protest rallies for the March For Our Lives campaign.
