Many laboratories do not explain the importance of animal testing to the public. The public is often left in the dark about the animal testing and leaves many questions unanswered. One must remember that scientists who carry out animal testing are human to and most definitely do feel some sense of guilt using these animals for the sole reason to benefit mankind. Many believe that animals testing is wrong, but they must understand that at the current time there is no other option. Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing Labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings.
Scientist are looking for alternatives to animal testing but there are simply no better alternatives available to them right now. Human testing is not even considered as an option. Giving up on using animal testing is also not an option because the human race would be all but eradicated by the pathogens it has created. The closest thing we have to a better alternative is stem cells. Once stem cell research has progressed to the point in which scientists can use it produce medicines to fight diseases, it will no doubt be used over animal testing.

An example is that mice only live two or three years so researchers can observe effects of genetic manipulation over the whole life of the mouse while they would not be able to do that with a human. If you are scared that an animal might get hurt while being used in animal research, do not be. There are two reasons why they will not be hurt. The first reason is that there are laws in place to protect animals from mistreatment. The second reason is that researchers do not want the animal hurt so they will end up with accurate test results when doing their research on the animal.
In all, animal testing helps research science. Animal rights activists can argue their points until the end, yet in a matter of their life or their families lives, more than half of them would have to contest and say that they would rather have an animal be tested for something before their family member. It is done in humane ways and is reliable.
Another reason animal testing does not make sense is because we have alternative ways of testing. There are many new ways of testing besides testing on animals. By doing these other types of tests, people can save animals from pain and save their lives. In the article, “Alternative Testing” stated, “some new ways of testing could include ways like using tests on cells, using tests on types of tissues, and using tests on computer stimulations” (Howard). The article, “Ban Animal Testing” stated, “that an alternative method of testing is in vitro studies, which are cells used to test properties of drugs and tissues can also be used to test products and reactions from drugs as well” (Stachura). Animal testing is an immoral, heinous, atrocious act. One should never put an animal before his own life; we are all here on earth due to some strand of evolution or the other, making prejudice and other discriminations (man or not) obsolete and meaningless. Those who would think themselves above another creature are each failures in their own individual way. The truth is that most of us would rather live, reside in a house and would not be a part of an experiment that caused us pain. However, most people accept the elements of the above conditions for animals. Animals should not be a part of the pain and horrific conditions that humans put them through. We shouldn’t just let these innocent animals suffer and die to save human lives, when we could find other ways to treat diseases.

Furthermore, animal testing is inhumane, it violates the lives of all animals used in such testing, it is very expensive for the inaccuracy of the results we obtain from it and it is unreliable as animals differ from humans in many ways. At this moment, millions of animals know cold cages in laboratories as home, but why? Some of these animals are subjects for medical research purposes, while others are used out of pure curiosity and to test different products. Majority of these animals are used in painful experiments and are left in agony. While many of them die, a few animals survive, but these unfortunate ones wish they could be put out of their misery as well. Although scientists have resources they could use to lower the pain each animal endures and even alternatives of their test subjects, millions of innocent creatures are still suffering. For many years there has been controversy whether or not animals should be tested on between scientists and animal right supporters. It is very debatable if animals should be tested on when a cure for a disease could be found from testing on animals. From my own personal view I have a huge heart for animals, but if we can not find other alternatives, and is possible we can find cures for diseases, then animals may be used for research, but only for medical reasons.
