Marijuana, which is also known as cannabis is a drug that is intended as a medicine or a psychoactive drug. The drug’s mental and physical effects on the body have made it popular among the people suffering from chronic diseases. The drug has been in existence since the 3rd millennium BC where it was first recorded. The drug has also been used as a recreational drug by the people because of its mental effects that make a person feel “stoned” or “high” feeling with a general change in perception, mood and euphoria. The drug is illegal in many countries with the inclusion of some state in the United States. Close to half the states have legalized the drug or are in the progress of doing so. Many people are fighting against the legalization of the drug, however, marijuana should be legalized for its medical properties and for the implications it will have on the economy and legal system. …show more content…

The drug is used by people suffering from cancer to ease the pain such as people with chronic diseases and some of the depressed people (McGinty et al. 118). The medicinal value of the drug has been tested and it is one of the most effective natural drugs in the world. Some of the drug stores sell the drug to these people but most of the populations do not have the access. As such, many people are suffering when this cheap and natural drug could have helped them overcome such diseases. In contrast, some support groups argue that its uses as a medicine can lead to addiction for the patients. They argue that people will abuse the drug rather than taking it as prescribed.
