Should College Education Be Free? Student Loans have been around for fifty-three years and a great deal of citizens of the United States wants to terminate them. A great majority of people argue that college should be free since college is a necessity for building a career. On the other hand, others believe college should still be a person’s responsibility to pay for since it is optional to obtain certain jobs in the workplace without it. College should be free and there are three fundamental reasons that will support this thought: rising college cost, government funding programs, and the necessity of college for a future career. For countless years, the cost to go to college has risen drastically and this has led to an accumulation of more than a trillion dollars in student loan debt for students after they graduate. European countries, such as Finland and Norway, offer free college to anyone who wants to pursue an education. These countries are able to do this by having higher taxes. The United States has lawmakers trying to determine how they would be able making free college possible for anyone that requires it in order to be to go to college. Currently, Tennessee, Chicago, and New York offer free tuition for anyone seeking community college. There is a requirement of residing a few years in their state after the student graduates. This is how the state will make the money they spent on the college by having the graduate pay taxes and work in their state afterward. By doing this, then there would be a greater amount of people able to attend college, especially if they were not able to do so far before due to the cost. For the most part, the United States is slowly progressing towards free college state by state and this will ensure that there will be a greater amount of students that will attend
