Since the discovery of marijuana, it has been used as a recreational drug by many individuals. Marijuana is being seen as a “safe” drug to use in which many marijuana users believe that it does not have serious side effects like cocaine, crack, and heroin. Moreover, since the 20th Century, doctors have prescribe marijuana for the use to deal with the bad effects of having glaucoma and cancer. In United States, even though marijuana is suitable to use for medical reasons on a state government level, but is still illegal to use on a federal government level. However, many marijuana users do not know that cigarettes and alcohol actually have bad side effects like any other addictive drug. The only difference is that many people are bulks of money from the usage of cigarettes and alcohol. Many states in United States would like to legalize marijuana usage to receive the tax revenue from the sale of the marijuana which is like cigarettes and alcohol, which they can receive a lot of tax revenue from the sales. In the other hand, some individuals feel that like alcohol and cigarettes, marijuana may be harmful to the individual’s personal health. But, in fact the use of marijuana would not affect society as a whole. It is different from cocaine, crack, and heroin, which are drugs that not only affect the user, but their families as well as society. At present, enormous revenue from the taxation of cigarettes, alcohol and other recreational activities are collected by the government. Furthermore, legalizing recreational marijuana will lead to a growth in legit marijuana businesses, which will then become a source of income for the participants and government revenue through taxation of such establishments. From the extra money gained, the government can it to other demanding sectors such as healthcare and education. The funds supplied to education, and healthcare sectors can improve the standards of living of the citizens. Also, through the legalizing of marijuana, more jobs can be provided to the citizens and thus decrease the rate of unemployed.
