In this day in age, whether young or old, everyone is on social media. Between Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the many other options for socializing online, the internet has become an integral part in our society. When in public, wherever one turns, he or she will see a plethora amount of people on social media, whether it be to post a picture, update a status, or to just check in on their friends. However, in the busy world we live in today, one does not have time to actually keep up with friendships on a regular basis face to face. Everyone is guilty of being on Facebook on a regular basis and using it as a way to follow the lives of their friends. Thus, the information for this topic would be fairly easy to obtain. I would be able to interview people around me, young and old, and compare their opinions on the matter, and it would be interesting to see the difference of views. I personally believe that while nothing can replace personally having a friend to be with and spend time with, the support that one can receive on Facebook, whether he or she is sick, needing prayers, or wanting to share exciting news, can be overwhelmingly positive and make one feel better. Before Facebook, when something tragic or exciting happened to someone, it took several days, if not weeks, for all of their acquaintances to know what happened. But, with the ease of Facebook, one can simply post a status and everyone will know about it in a matter of hours and begin sending condolences or cheerful comments. However, I also know some people that aren’t fond of social media and rarely use it. Therefore, the opinions on this topic would be very diverse and allow for interesting feedback Therefore, this would be an excellent topic to research.
