“Facebook has been perceived as a technological tool that is largely successful at building community.” (Wankel, and Wankel 58) With the advancement of technology, the number of teenagers using Facebook has increased significantly. Facebook influences mostly teenagers, as they spend most of their time on Facebook. Facebook affects the psychological health of teens, but at the same time it allows for the social interaction.
Facebook is one of the most powerful social media that has made everyone’s life (especially the teenagers) easier than before in many ways. Most of the teens find it more comfortable to communicate with their new friends or to make friends through online chatting. Almost every teen is shy compared to children and adults. Online chatting and voice calls allow them to express their feelings and their thoughts with their friends. Facebook has helped many teens to start a relationship, as many people find it easy to interact and express their feelings through online chatting (Barricella). Along with the social interaction and communication, it also allows us to get updated about new information of different areas. These kinds of post allow us to know about that person. It not only allows us to get updated about the worldwide news, it also helps us to share our thoughts and ideas through the photos and status update (Barricella). People can upload their photos about new places, post new status and new information. Now, most of the teens are using Facebook through mobile phones, as it is one of the most convenient way of using it. (Agosto, et al, 1108). They spent most of their time browsing through Facebook, stalking other people’s account, updating status about every private thing, uploading every photo. They create their own world of happiness on Facebook. And if they are not allowed to use Facebook, then they get angry. It even causes a disturbance in a normal sleep pattern and causes both mental and physical fatigue. To be free from stress, most of the teenagers seek help from Facebook, but their stress level increase when they don’t get expected support and help. They even avoid a different kind of social gathering with their family and friends, as they prefer online chatting than real face to face communication. Facebook chatting decrease the ability to carry out face to face conversation, as a person is always dependent on the keyboard to communicate with other people (Jung, 1). They think that the real-life conversation is boring, so they avoid face to face family interaction. Another main problem faced by every person is the Cyber-bullying. The number of cyber-bullying case is increasing day by day. Cyber-bullying affects almost more than 50% of the teens.
