Imagine you found Aladdin’s magic carpet that can take you wherever you want, without worrying about any traffic and accidents. This sounds like a cartoon story, but it can become true. The scientists are working to develop fully autonomous cars that can work almost like Aladdin’s magic carpet, but rather than flying they will be on the ground, driving themselves, communicating with each other. We just have to give a command, and after that all work will be handled by the car. The famous theoretical physicist Michio Kaku wrote his experience of a driverless car in his book Physics of Future as, “It became a joy to be able to relax in a car that drove itself with superhuman accuracy and skill” (21). Kaku was so impressed by the car that he had full faith in the car. He had full confidence in the car’s technology and, its capabilities. But still there are some challenges that need to be faced in order to bring the driverless cars into the regular real world. In the future driverless cars will save big amounts of money when it comes to accidents. According to the report of NHTSA, “In 2010, there were 32,999 people killed, 3.9 million were injured, and 24 million vehicles were damaged in motor vehicle crashes in the United States. The economic costs of these crashes totaled $242 billion.” This is a huge amount of money that can create a positive impact on America’s economy. Some argue that driverless cars will take the jobs of taxi and truck drivers that will ultimately affect the US economy.
