Unless one has spent a greater portion of their life living under a rock, the name Bigfoot is nothing new to today’s society. Bigfoot is arguably one of the most legendary and mysterious creatures to ever step foot on our planet. For hundreds of years, these large cryptid hominids have quietly roamed our world, undocumented and unconfronted. These gentle beasts have lived right in front of our very eyes since the early fifteenth century yet for some reason the human race has yet to recognize their existence. There are two types of people in this world today: Bigfoot believers and those who think the believers belong in a mental institution. I am Sam Barbee and I am a proud believer. However, recently scientists have taken a more active approach in these astonishing human-like beasts to discover if this great species is, in fact, more than mere legend, but a remarkably elusive reality. Though the idea is still very controversial, many groups and organizations worldwide have dedicated their efforts to discover the truth. Over the past twenty-two years, the Bigfoot Field Research Organization, or the BFRO, has worked diligently on helping to prove Bigfoot’s existence. Through field research, interviewing witnesses, and genetically testing evidence, the BFRO has helped to shed some light on the existence of Bigfoot and to prove skeptics wrong. Bigfoot has often been joked as a “myth” or “a large bear on two legs,” far too long. There is also zero tangible evidence to prove that Bigfoot does not exist. Researchers have found many forms of physical evidence to support the existence of Bigfoot. Evidence such as hair, teeth marks, and foot casts come in abundance. All known Bigfoot evidence has been tested against other large mammals that could have possibly left behind these prints and all evidence has come back inconclusive, whatever creature leaves these pieces of evidence behind is not known to man today(Lovgren). The most thought provoking evidence of all though is not evidence from the body of Bigfoot, but the disturbance of an area left by Bigfoot. What separates Bigfoot from all other primates and mammals in the world is the sheer strength, power, and ability the creature has compared to its similar counterparts(Dolak). Trees have been uprooted, logs thrown great distances, boulders moved, and deer and elk chased down by foot. No humans or bears on two feet are capable of doing this, only the hands of a Bigfoot are to blame. Fresno County, California was home to a large deer population. One calm summer night, a farmer claimed he saw a family of three Bigfoots running through a field and one had a deer hanging over its shoulder.
