Unrewarded Success The issue I am presenting is the question of whether or not a person’s salary should be limited; if having the opposite of a minimum wage, maximum wage, is something that would benefit the economy. The fundamental problem with this idea is that it takes away citizen rights and is actually a loss for those who worked hard enough to make a success of themselves. Many believe that the affluent handfuls are greedy and the drive they have for power is dangerous. However, maximum cap would take away constitutional rights as well as citizens right to the Pursuit of Happiness. A maximum cap would hinder the economy because once people have reached their full amount, nothing would make them want to continue, let alone to the best of their ability. Those who support implementing the maximum wage believe it to be “highly responsive to economic forces.” Many people question why the employers who can easily raise their own salary, can’t they raise their employees (Maximum Wage vs. Minimum Wage Ratio). That the high salary the one percent makes is simply from greed and isn’t fair. People in support of the maximum wage say justifying it would be to increase the minimum wage, but since that would lead to inflation, setting a cap on the wealthy is the next best solution (Should There be a Maximum Wage Law). Because of the beliefs that some of the wealthy are undeserving, a maximum cap to them all would be fair. What these people aren’t considering are the principals of what limiting the one percent would be. Supporting a maximum cap is equivalent to wanting everything and everyone to be equal and doing so in an immoral way.
