Criminal rehabilitation in the United States needs to be reworked because modern rehab does not; help criminals with debt owed while in prison, after being in jail/prison most criminals can’t afford to pay debts owed or can’t find paying jobs. Teach them how to stay away from things that will draw them back to crime because the criminals will hang out with the same people and get into trouble again. Criminals are not taught where to go and how to stay away and say no to their “friends” they’ll need to find a job that will hire them, It doesn’t help that they are not taught skills needed to get a job.

Rehab does not help criminals with debt because statistically after being in jail/prison most criminals can’t afford to pay debts owed. Criminals don’t have jobs in jail/prison and can hardly find any when they’re out so it’s hard for them to pay fines/debts owed, this draws them back into criminal activity. While in jail prisoners who are on good behavior have a chance to earn “in prison” money to buy things that they need but this does not benefit them for when they do leave prison. Imagine working so hard for something and earning money just to be told it only works for buying stuff in prison and not for spending or paying debts when you leave so your …show more content…

While in prison there is a likely chance there will be outside influences still available to criminals such as gangs. Criminals can’t try to be rehabilitated because they are being socially forced to do work for “their” people. It doesn’t help that prisons don’t teach criminals about places they can go to get away from these social bonds. Prisons only teach the “good” criminals about this and see some as a waste of time when they are actually being forced into doing what they do. Criminals also get out of prison and do have debt so they see going to their “friends” and earning quick money as an easy way to earn and pay
