Homelessness It is a sad site to see people of my peers down on their luck while out and about. They have become society’s outcasts and rejects. These individuals that I’m referring to are known are homeless folk. They were once productive members of a working society, and are now shunned by what most of us view as a Darwin economy. This subject is somewhat meaningful to because, of the fact that I once was homeless. I strongly believe that the causes for homelessness are the lack of transportation to and from work, low paying jobs for advancing citizens, loss of jobs, high housing and rental costs, substance abuse, and as a lifestyle. When I was younger, living in the south side of Chicago my mom and dad looked after me, my sisters, and my brother. My dad would occasionally drink too much whenever he had money. Sometimes he would get violent reminiscing on his past or the current past-present. One day my mom packed some of our clothes in our book bags. Then she rushed us out into the night. We wondered the streets as children and eventually made our way in to a shelter. We stayed several days and nights. We would visit my mom’s side of the family from time to time just to catch our breaths. Later during our wondering, travels my mom bumps in to an old friend. She fills him in on our situation and he lets us stay with him for a while. The two of them become very acquainted with each other. There is a problem. The building that her friend lives in does not allow children, or so we were told. To make matters worse he sees me and my siblings as a hindrance. We leave the apartment to look for a new place to rest or heads but this time the friend comes along. We are out on our own again but this time we had an ext... ... middle of paper ... ...so believe that not only should the government take more action but so should the people themselves. Presently, there are many citizens that have fell below the working class standards of society. The problem is visible and the answer is obvious but it is ignored. Most people could possible prevent or stall homelessness by changing careers. Those with lack of transportations could carpool. Everyone could benefit from spending within their budget and live within their means. That way the tenant can still afford to pay rent or simply find some place cheaper. Perhaps, healthy lifestyle changes for individuals that are victims of abuse or by choice. There are programs and shelters offer to those that are in need. However one becomes homeless shouldn’t be judged for becoming a victim of circumstances, they should be supported and assisted be into society.
