Those Creepy Genius People Do you ever happen to notice that one slightly odd person who never seems to fit in? That person that you are thinking of is an outsider. Outsiders are in some cases also called weird, creepy, odd, awkward, and the list could go on. However they are not always as odd as you think in most cases they are actually pretty cool geniuses. Before you judge someone or leave them out because they aren't just like you, give them a chance. Outsiders have so many things they should be valued for but are left unrecognized. Outsiders have value in society and have created great inventions. These great inventions are items we use in our everyday lives like cellphones, computers, vehicles, snapchat, and so much more. Outsiders take ideas or inventions in their head and turn them into reality. For example Steve Jobs created the Apple company which makes the iPhone. Steve Jobs was an outsider and a very successful entrepreneur. Just because you are different doesn't mean you aren't smart or don't fit in. You do not have to compare yourself to anyone else because they are just as valuable as you are you are in charge of your happiness and now you feel so if you are comparing yourself all the time you won't feel happy and wanted. However there is never going to not be someone who thinks they are better than you or someone that thinks they know more about you and can judge you. In the book The Outsider, Meursault defies local convention by not showing the sadness that is expected of him at his mother’s funeral. Ultimately, his life is dependant on this very decision of whether or not to show emotion. In the society that Meursault lives in, one is expected to conform to their standards and social norms. Anyone who deviates from these norms is considered an outcast and destined to die at the hands of society. Meursault was expected to show outwards signs of grief whether it was real or not. Even if the grief is artificial, most people will play to the audience and show signs of grief to minimize the risk of losing their life. Meursault’s was conflicted between following society’s rules and being true to himself. The nurse at his mother's funeral warned him that “if yougo slowly, you risk getting sun-stroke. But if you go too fast, you perspire and then in the church you catch a chill. She was right. There was no way out” (Camus, 22). The nurse’s admonition is consistent with his internal struggle. To Meursault, walking too fast is similar to conforming to society and walking too slow means following his own path. There is no middle ground to the situation, no happy median and no suitable compromise. Meursault faces the challenge of whether or not to conform on three main levels; physical, emotional and spiritual. He has the constant battle between following his physical self; his id, and doing what is right.
