"Araby" by James Joyce is a story about a boy's first love or it was more of a crush then love. The boy’s relationship with Mangan’s sister is all based on his own imagination. He used to think about her always and used to follow her everywhere. “Araby” is about this young boy's pursuit for his imaginative love. This pursuit ends in a failure but this failure made him aware about his inner awareness and he suddenly starts thinking like a man instead of a young boy. This story was an eye opener for this boy and can make him strong as a person. It is only one sided love from boy`s side. Still the boy thinks that something is going on between him and Mangan`s sister. Just a glimpse of this girl takes him to a land of dreams and imagination. The biggest obstacle here is that they hardly ever talked and for any relationship the primary requirement is good communication. Relationships are not based on pure imagination, but here there is confusion between love and infatuation for this boy. There was nothing wrong with this boy; infatuation can happen to anyone especially in young age. He was day dreaming most of the time about this girl because she was everything for him. “All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: “O love! O love!” many times.” ( ). He was always in quest to make this girl happy and was willing to do anything for him. He was full of immaturity and didn`t knew what love is in reality.
