In the novel, Belinda, Clarence Hervey is portrayed as a complicated character. The narrator of the story seems to give off a biased opinion of the character and does so by using the literary devices of point of view and irony to contribute to the development of Clarence’s complex nature. The point of view throughout this selection of the story is third person limited and the narrator describes Hervey as a "chameleon" who conforms to "different situations."
