President Roosevelt, was facing the worst challenge that any president could have, The Great Depression. Americans were going through a hard crisis. Business were effected, people had lost their homes, a sad reality for the nation, with no way out. He was chosen by the people in hopes that he would be the next leader in the United States to create a change for the better. President Roosevelt, had analyzed all the events and things that had been done prior and was trying to find a solution to the problem. One of the first things President Roosevelt did was to implement the Emergency Banking Relief Act, this was a start to boost the economy. It was a step for people to believe again, that something was being done. In addition, he reduced expenses and ended Prohibition. He knew the farmers also needed help, he addressed the issue by organizing farm credit, refinancing and lowering interest rates for them, according to the textbook. It prevented from farmers losing their lands and homes too. The Federal Emergency Relief Administration was passed to assist many people in need, especially the unemployed. This was an effort to create stability in America once again. The Second New deal was composed of several elements, the Wagner Act, Social Security and Works Progress Administration. The Wagner Act, it created awareness to workers’ rights. An educational act for all workers and companies. The Social Security, is a self-pension fund where you had to contribute and get when you retire. President Roosevelt would emphasize that this was a supplement income, according to the textbook.
