A SWOT Analysis of Apple Inc. Presented by Leah Duncan, Fred Gibbs, Casandra Gibson, Dawn Jordan, and Angela Perkins Mission Statement for 2013 “Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad.” Vision Statement Apple (from an interview with CEO Tim Cook): “We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products and that’s not changing. We are constantly focusing on innovating. We believe in the simple not the complex. We believe that we need to own and control the primary technologies behind the products that we make, and participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in saying no to thousands of projects, so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollination of our groups, which allow us to innovate in a way that others cannot. And frankly, we don’t settle for anything less than excellence in every group in the company, and we have the self-honesty to admit when we’re wrong and the courage to change. And I think regardless of who is in what job those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well.” The statement is unique and reflects its company’s culture. Amazon is simple, short, and direct. The vision tells you exactly what the company wants to create. Apple’s vision statement is longer and describes the company’s values; it’s Apple’s DNA. Because these chips have a smaller storage capacity and cost more than traditional hard drives, it’s a great short term growth opportunity for Apple to do something about it. As far as long term growth for Apple, how about an iTV? There have been rumors of one in the works, but with the 2013 Christmas season in the past, the tech industry is anxiously awaiting for any sign of this becoming reality. “With smart TVs taking over the TV market, analysts reckon that the time is ripe for an Apple iTV to be launched. Smart TV adoption grew from 12% in 2011 to 25% in 2012, according to a new report from TDG.” says Dan Granham of techradar.com. http://www.techradar.com/us/news/television/apple-itv-release-date-news-and-rumours-1045768
