CREON AND ANTIGONE'S CONFLICTS

CREON “In all of Thebes, you’re the only one who looks at things that way.” ANTIGONE “They share my views , but they keep their mouths shut just for you.”(page 273) These quotes show us that Creon is a hard-headed person that does not consider Antigone’s beliefs. His interactions with Antigone will cause major conflicts in the play. Creon’s many words and interactions with people in the play will eventually develop him into a tragic hero.

Antigone’s interactions with Creon demonstrates her differences by many different conflicts they are involved in. CREON “You had a brother killed fighting for the other side.” CREON “Why then give tributes which insult his name?” (page 273) This text shows us that Creon does not want to give a burial site to a man fighting against Thebes. Creon does not want Polyneices to be buried since he betrayed Creon and Antigone thinks that he should be buried just like his …show more content…

Creon’s pride goes too far when he thinks he can do no wrong. In the play it says HAEMON “Then Antigone will die and in her death kill someone else.” CREON “Are you so insolent you threaten me?” (page 282) Creon gets swallowed up into his pride by saying this quote because he thinks Haemon is stupid by threatening a “King.”

Many different interactions between Haemon, Antigone, and Creon advance the plot and develop the theme by showing many tragic actions the Haemon and Antigone take. In the play it says, “Antigone hanging by the neck, Haemon had his arms around her waist, crying out in sorrow for the loss of his own bride,now among the dead, his father’s work” (page 300) This quote advances the plot very swiftly as Antigone and Haemon are both dead because of Creon’s dignity and selfishness. It shows the theme of a disastrous time in the play. Creon feels distraught as he realizes his arrogance has finally caught up to
