Anti-Bullying Monument: Argument

The public should be educated and reminded of the negative effects bullying can have on its victims. People who are victims of bullying deserve to be supported and they need to know that they are not alone. “The victims of bullying are more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of school.” The victims of bullying are not only being ostracized, but they are also missing out on an education. In addition to the lack of education, victims of bullying are “between two to nine times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims.” It is important for everyone in the community to engage together to send a unified message against bullying. There are programs available to help victims of bullying, such as Peace Pal. Some may believe that a monument will not have a significant effect on the decrease of bullying, but it does not hurt to deliver a meaningful message. The Precise Publishing group provides an outlet for young people to express themselves; this group also offers counseling, motivational speaking, and academic enrichment. Our monument can be considered an outlet because it is a place for comfort. Bullying is impossible to control and stop, but just like the mentioned resources available to help those suffering from bullying; our monument can help decrease the amount of bullying in our society. As the increase of support systems continue to grow, bullying may come to an end eventually. The victims of bullying need to feel welcome and they need support; our monument offers comfort and support. This monument will support and honor the victims of bullying and it will encourage people to unite against bullying.

Final Decision

As we were attempting to construct our maze, we ran into a few problems. We didn't know how to make viewers feel a lot of sympathy, we didn't know what to include in the rooms, and we felt like we were not capturing the complete issue of bullying. Instead of capturing the problems that occur due to bullying, we were mostly providing a lot of facts.

We wanted to make viewers of our monument feel something; instead, we were just informing them about bullying. We decided to focus on how difficult it can be to deal with bullying.

Our final monument depicts bullying in an aggressive manner. After viewers observe our monument and understand the meaning of the little details, viewers can understand that bullying can have an intense negative affect on its victims.
