Over the past several years, it has not been uncommon to hear about bullying. Unfortunately, bullying is something that has affected the lives of millions of people around the world. Some of those people have had resolve from the bullying, and many people have not been able to reach that resolve and the effects have been emotionally scarring. According to Dictionary.com, “bullying is a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people”. Based on the definition alone, there might be a time where any individual could reflect back to when they were in school and they were witness to or victim of a bully. The remainder of this paper will discuss the following: Description of key historical events and/ or legal decision that make bullying a major or important one in the U.S. Discussing social psychology concepts that have been addressed in the course, which are related to bullying. Analyzing challenges that individuals and law enforcement agencies face with bullying. Explain my agreement with the statements provided by the authors of the chosen references. Explain my disagreement with the statements by authors of the chosen references. Recommend ways that individuals should address bullying to help improve social elements involved in bullying. Suggesting ways those in criminal justice (police officers, prosecuting attorneys, and /or judges) should address bullying. When bullying is mentioned, it may seem like a trendy word to reference when thinking about how people feel victimized in certain situations, or feeling ganged up against. The unfortunate reality is that bullying is not a recent revelation, it has been around for several decades and has been a longstanding issue... ... middle of paper ... ...ant for parents to focus on effectively communicating with their children in knowing what is going on at school and if there is a problem they can help them find professional help to overcome them. I also recommend that the criminal justice such as police officers enforce on providing programs that will help children combat their behavioral disorders and engage in more community based activities that help give back to the communities and help children/ students focus on positive behavioral reinforcement. In conclusion, I feel that bullying has definitely come a long way, since it has been historically recognized as mere harassment. I think with the use of raising more awareness through school programs, after school programs, and community based programs children will begin to develop a healthier outlook on life and preventing from feeling victimized or an outcast.
