A fictional story written by the wonderful author Lucy Maud Montgomery, takes place mostly on the lovely Prince Edward Islands in Canada. This story is about a fare skinned, very thin, red headed orphan girl with a wild imagination. She goes through the world looking for “kindred spirits,” meeting “bosom” friends and school foes. Let’s take a look at Anne’s life in “Anne of Green Gables”.

After her parent died of fevers, Anne was taken in by Mrs. Thomas, since her parents both came from far away and none of her relatives lived close by. Anne was with the Thomas’s till she was 8. Mrs. Thomas had her “wits end” with Anne, so Mrs. Thomas sent her away. Next she went to Mrs. Hammond to help take care of her babies, having 8 children and 3 pairs of twins; which Anne thought was too much. After Mr. Hammond died Anne was sent back to the orphan asylum. A few months later Anne was adopted by Matthew and Marilia Cuthbert (brother and sister). After arriving at Prince Edward Island she waited patiently for someone to come for her. When Matthew arrived, Anne made her imagination known saying “I’m very glad to see you. I was beginning to be afraid that you weren’t coming for me and I was imagining all the things that might have happened to prevent you. I made up my mind that if you didn’t come for me to-night I’d go down the track to that big cherry tree at the bend, and climb up into it to stay the night. I wouldn’t be a bit afraid, and it would be lovely to sleep in a wild cherry tree all white in bloom…” and she chatted the whole way back to Green Gables. Although Matthew being a shy guy around women especially little girls that he didn’t know, he found himself enjoying Anne’s company. Anne’s excitement was short lived, as soon as Matthe...

...st she was told that if she continued to work as hard as she was, she would in no time lose her sight completely. Anne made a really big decision to stay home with Marilia instead of going to remedy, she tried taking a teacher job at the Avonlea School, but the spot was already taken by Gilbert Blythe. So Anne went to the Carmondy. But one afternoon Gilbert came strolling down the lane, he told Anne that the Avonlea school was hers and that he switched to the school at White sands, he knew Anne’s situation and talk to the board. Once again Gilbert asked for forgiveness and friendship, luckily this tome Anne accepted his apology, and they become very good friends.

I love this book so much, with all its happy and sad moments. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Lucy Maud Montgomery is a brilliant author!
