According to Stepane Pilick’s article, the first zoo opened in 1793 in Paris. Zoo have progressed in numbers, therefore putting more animals in an unhappy state of life. I personally feel that forcing wild animals into an enclosed living facility is harmful to that animals quality of life. Putting animals in zoos takes away a big part of their natural instincts. The quality of the animals life is greatly decreased when the animal is taken out of its natural habitat and into a zoo.
Zoos do not make the best environment for animals. Zimmerman had stated in his article, “what we definitely know is that animals suffer in zoos-there are high mortality rates, there's injuries, and there’s depression.” Keeping animals in an enclosed takes away a big of their persona space that they would get if they were left in the wild where they belong. According to the article “How Zoos Are Distorting Our View of the Natural World,” animals in captivity form harmful behaviors such as, pacing, bar biting, head bobbing, neck twisting, regurgitation, and self-mutilation. This is only some of the harmful behavior that animals can and sometimes will appear to have. Studies have shown that keeping animals in the zoo, does not have a positive impact on their life. Meaning that animals would have a improved life outside of the zoo.
Animals are made to reproduce on their own time and schedule, but zoo will sometimes use unnatural methods to breed the animals. Some zoos who use artificial inseminations keep it from the patons because it is an unethical resource. I consider that using artificial inseminations is passable for animals that are endangered, but it is not fair for animals that can naturally breed on their own.
