Why you should reduce the amount of animal products you buy
Good morning/ afternoon 8.2 and Mr. McNamara, today I will be discussing why you should drastically reduce the amount the animal products you buy.
Animal testing is one of the most major animal abuse problems throughout the whole entire world. Many big name brands (such as L’Oreal, Pantene, and even MAC) still use animals to test their products. Over 115 million dogs, cats, and other animals are burned, poisoned and even killed in these tests each year. Can you imagine if you were doomed to live your entire life in a cage and constantly have aggravatingly painful experiments performed on you daily? But even worse, knowing these experiments would leave you with life-long injuries or even your death? This speech will include, firstly, what happens to animals in these tests, secondly, why animal testing should end and finally, what you can do to help stop these tests. By the end of this speech, you will agree with me that you should drastically reduce the amount of animal tested

Not only are most killed in these tests, before their deaths, some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, some have holes drilled into their skulls, and others have their spinal cords crushed. In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them. ("Experiments on Animals: Overview", 2012). Also, if we keep on killing a large amount of animals, we will soon not have the diversity of animals that we have today. Would you like it if your life as you know it was completely changed, you were separated from your family and hurt over and over again? You wouldn’t be able to live your life like that so why should innocent animals? But as hard as the experiments are to believe, there is technology that could be used instead of the animals, completely making all this hurt and loneliness
Animals should not be used as test subjects for any research. The innocent and helpless animals’ rights are being violated when they are involved during animal experimentation. These unfortunate animals do not have a choice whether or not they want to be involved in testing. They are not intended for people to experiment on for their own selfish reasons. It is not right to take advantage of the animals because they are helpless and cannot protect themselves. Animals and humans have similarities; they both behave, feel, think, and experience pain. Therefore, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. The pain and suffering an animal is forced to endure is not worth any new product. It is cruel and inhumane to take advantage of an innocent animal. These tests that use animals to ensure the safety of products are extremely common without people even knowing about it. It is not fair to these animals to abuse their beauty. They are helpless and cannot control what is happening to them. Animal experimentation should be stopped because it violates the rights of animals and harms or even kills the animals.
“According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and "killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, or other means.”(Peta). Have you ever wondered if a product you own was safe to use? Did you know that millions of animals are tested on each year for the daily products you use? According to Peta, around 26 million animals are tested each year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. Animals are used to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and healthcare uses (Peta). Animals are harmed or sometimes even killed in this process. Animals are not the same as humans, therefore; the testing done on Animals is not helping our human society, it’s hurting the animals. There are alternative ways to performing testing rather than testing on animals.
Hundreds of millions of animals lives are taken each year because of the “necessity” of testing products that don’t apply to animals whatsoever. Therefor, I hold my stance as an advocate, or being against animal testing in general. There are many advocates for this topic which is a positive aspect, but it is still happening out there. Once again I believe animals should not be tested on for products because all living things should be treated humanely, there are other ways to test products, and millions of animals are put to their death because of the
Product testing is against animal rights and is harmful to the animals that are used for the testing. The animals that are used in testing are usually left alone in the laboratories at night or whenever they are not being tested which leads to the animal feeling pain from the loneliness in the laboratory (“Animal Testing 101”). The products and procedures that they test on the animals are sometimes terrifying and painful for the animal during testing which results in them being fearful even when a test is not being performed on them at the time (“Animal Testing 101”). Whenever a test is not being done on the animals they are place in a barren cage and long to roam free, sometimes keeping them in the fear of the laboratories causes them to develop some neurotic behaviors such as rocking back and forth or biting their own skin (“Animal Testing 101”). A majority of the animals that are used for product testing will be killed after living a life of loneliness and fear (“Animal Testing 101”). Product testing should be stopped because it is harmful to the animals involved in the testing and is al...
Specific Purpose – To persuade my audience that animal testing is wrong and how other safer alternatives should be taken.
Right now, millions or animals including mice, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs and others are locked inside cold cages in laboratories across the country. More than 100 million animals each year suffer and die from chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests as well as biology lessons, medical training exercises, and curiosity-driven medical experiments at universities. Throughout history, animal testing has played an important role in harming animals for human advantages, making many animals suffer. Animal testing should be excluded because its inhumane, violates the rights of animals, and there are safer alternatives.
Essentially we are torturing the animals for a negative outcome, both for the human and the animal. The Food and Drug Administration reports that “92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in humans” (“Top Five Reasons”). If the products and drugs that we are testing on the animals are not working then there is no use in harming a harmless animal. Some may disagree and say that animal testing has enabled us to develop many life-saving treatments for both humans and animals. But in reality, there are more cons than pros in animal testing.

Simple household items such as lotions, shampoos and cosmetics aren’t very expensive and are within reach for the public, yet the public is not knowledgeable of the fact that the products that they use everyday are put through a series of tests which involve the use of harmless animals. Several large commercial companies do not make products for animals; they decide that using these harmless creatures for the testing of their products, could be cause to be harmful to animals still go forward with these types of procedures on an everyday basis. Although these animals are unable to defend themselves or signs of any form of consent for the near death procedures, these companies find this as a cheap solution for testing their products before placing them on the market. There are many other alternatives to testing animals such as embryonic stem cell research. Animal experimentation is wrong and it can be avoided but companies which are greedy for money chose not to.
Over 100 million animals are used in experiments; 95% of these animals end up dying. Animals are killed and mutilated for the sake of science. Some experiments can involve “blinding, severing of limbs, damaging brain, and ingesting various drugs.” (Coster,
Hundreds of millions of animals die every year from animal testing in the United States. Innocent animals are used everyday in laboratories for biology advancements, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. They are used to provide information to make better products that are safe for human use. Although animal experimentation has some benefits, the negatives outweigh the positives. Animal testing is killing off innocent beings for the possible human benefit, and with modern technology, there are alternative ways to test products that leave animals unharmed.
(Preview Main Points) I will first talk about how animals are tested on to give us the products that we use everyday. Second, I will speak about why animals are chosen to be test subjects, then lastly about how we can help end animal testing.
Every year, thousands of animals are tormented, and then die during the animal experiments. Another fact is from Vivisection Information Network, there is a rough estimate from the European Union that 10.5 million vertebrate animals were used in animal experiments, which is 28,800 per day or one every three seconds. Around 18.5 million animals were used in the USA per year (Updated). Also, there are still a large amount of animals that have not been registered. Even though there are disadvantages and disagreement in using of animal experiment, there is also some evidences show that animal experiment is inevitable for the future progress, and the human beings would not have greater life quality without animal testing.
Our case is that if we don’t test on animals then progress in scientific fields would be halted. As first speaker for the negative I will speak about the benefits of animal testing in general and then I’ll talk in detail about animal testing in medicine. My second speaker will talk about the opinions on testing and the food chain and my third speaker will summarise our points and rebut.
It still comes as a surprise to me that with all the technology in today’s society, we are still relying on animals for cosmetic research. Some people think that it is acceptable and even justified to test on mere animals rather than risk hurting people. So, for these kinds of people, animal testing makes perfect sense. However, in my opinion, animals are living creatures and have the right to live out their lives as nature intended rather than simply surviving in cages while being poked and prodded with whatever scientists fancy. I think it is depressing and sort of grotesque that I am using products that have been tested on animals that are even commonly bred as our pets. So, I began my research to find out what companies still test on animals, why they do so, and what other alternatives they could use in place of animal testing.
