A. George Orwell's Animal Farm is an allegory of the evils of the Russian Revolution. The farm that the animals live on, Manor Farm, represents Russia. The farmer of the animals, Mr. Jones, is the last Russian Czar, King Nicholas ll. Old major could either be Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin. Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, writer, and socialist revolutionary. He wrote the infamous book The Communist Manifesto. Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the Russian Revolution. Napoleon the pig parallels Communist leader Joseph Stalin, and the dogs are his secret police. The horse named Boxer represents the proletariat people, otherwise known as the working class, and finally the pig known as Snowball represents the known Marxist revolutionary

Snowball represents Trotsky because he is a forward-thinking politician that wants to improve and help out with the windmill, but is chased out by vicious dogs Napoleon sends before he can do so.     one of the leaders of the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin like Napoleon was not a good speaker, cared deeply about power, and he killed all that opposed him. They both were extremely great at promising wonderful lies. One huge conflict that I discovered while reading this novel is over power, the human beings versus the animals on the farm and later in the story the animals versus the other animals. The animals and the humans are always fighting each other. The pigs were trying to convince other animals not to take orders from the humans. Old Major which was the original creator of the animal revolution says “Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever”. Old Major basically is the one who in my opinion created the idea of all humans being their major problem. Old Major also says “There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word- Man”. This is a perfect example of how he strongly believes that their life would be much better without human beings. He continues to try to convince the animals how terrible humans are by saying “Man is the only creature who consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all animals”. It is in the country of Tunisia were many similarities in its revolution are seen in George Orwell’s book. For example, Karl Marx, the inventor of the communist movement, was represented by Old Major, the most important animal on the farm until his death. Much like Old Major, Marx was a visionary who dreamed of equality. Trotsky was an important component to the victory in the Russian civil war, Snowball displaying this bravery during the battle of the cowshed. The hens, geese, and sheep that are executed are a representation of the millions who opposed Stalin's, and who are killed banished as a result. The hens and geese are not known for their docile natures, and serve as perfect rebels .
