A range of aspects of ancient Greek society are present in some form of our modern Western Civilisations. These influences include mathematics, government, art and architecture. Today, in modern Western Civilisations ancient Greece’s most famous export is undeniably is the formation of democracy. This essay will examine how the idea of democracy was formed, what ‘democracy’ means in each of the societal contexts and how the idea of democracy has developed and changed since ancient Greece.

The main benefit of democracies is the every adult has the same political rights shit each other. Those living in a democratic society are protected. Such democratic governments put laws into place in which protect the citizens and to ensure a safe and fair society.
In both these societies, ancient Greece and the 21st century, equality was emphasised in both these contexts, ancient Greece emphasis of equality was to allow all citizens as long as they were educated, male and over the age of 18, so basically excluding women, children and slaves, but excluding on the bases of wealth or prestige. Women were respected but expected to stay at home because they were subjected and controlled by men, due to this belief they argues that women should be left out of all decision-making.
To the contrary, modern democratic governing system give all citizens, except those under the age of 18 and foreigners, the right to vote regardless of gender and race. This democratic system gave both men and women the right to partake and participate in the democratic
