The Judgement of Solomon was a story with the purpose of revealing the truth. King Solomon tricked both women into revealing their true feelings and emotions by using the living child. Both were determined that the living child was theirs and the deceased on was one anothers. Manipulation and lies were a source for revealing the truth and carrying out the crime. The truth was determined with analyzing the best response and the best judgement. The story begins with the women informing that they were the “only” two women in the house in which they both gave birth to their children. She made it clear that there were only two sharing this house and that no one else could be suspected for the incident. The women claims the other women killed her …show more content…

It was clear that resolution between the two would not occur because both were determined to leave with the living child. This proves that the child's mother was willing to fight for her rightful son while the women who wasn’t the mother was willing to take without hesitance of the pain she would inflict. Both brought the issue before the king and he determined that both claimed that the living child was theirs and the deceased one one anothers. They repeatedly say that the living child belongs to both and the dead one to one another as if the repetition makes it true in their minds and more believable for those who listen. His solution was to use a sword and split the child in between both of them. There wasn’t any other way to know truth on whose child this truly was so he presented what was a “fair” opportunity for both. This was the true arc of the story, both women had to make a choice about the living child and determine his future. The solution of splitting the child in half was very interesting because he wanted to bring justice to both of them and he used the only method that made sense when not nothing the actual truth. He could have just followed an instinct that one seemed more believable than the other but he did not, he wanted to bring the right solution to the problem. The death of the living child brought pain to one women in particular. She exclaimed saying, “ O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him!” The other women responded, “ Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.” These lines allow us to interpret the truth of who is truly the mother of the child. The first women was willing to give up her child so he could live even if he wouldn’t be at her side. Her motherly instincts were shown to king with that reply. Her character demonstrated love and bravery because while she would be parted from whom she loved she put him before herself. The second women was demanding for equalness over the remaining child. She showed she was more interested in what benefited her more than what benefitted “her child”. She showed her selfishness because even though she knew the incident had occurred she was alright with neither of them having a child. She cared less about the child life but rather had more interest in how she would benefit from the death of her own child. The responses allowed for a comparison and determining contrast
