If I stay, an outstanding novel by Gayle Forman published in 2009, is an emotionally gripping story. The interesting part of the novel starts with Mia’s life after the accident. The readers also learn about her life before the tragedy with the help of plentiful flashbacks. She recalls her colorful and vibrant family members so vividly that they could easily step off the page and break the hearts of the readers. Furthermore, her remembrances also highlight her passion for music and romance with her boyfriend. Moreover, the readers will find the entire novel very interesting and inspiring and will also find the climax of the novel very satisfying. Mia is what we would call "an old soul", and because of this, it is so reflective and profound that it is hard not to get attached to the character. The book is narrated in first person by Mia itself, so that, as she wanders around the hospital and tries to figure out what exactly is going on, we know as much as she. However, the narration innovates in telling not only the present, but interim between various flashbacks of his past. These glimpses at what happened before the accident is what gives us her old life, her family, her friend Kim and her love for Adam. Due to her severe accident, Mia went into comma. In the entire period of her comma, her feelings about her boyfriend changed drastically. In the beginning of the story she had deep love for her boyfriend but it changed during her near the end as she had not the same feelings for her boyfriend that used to be in the beginning. This suggests that Mia is a dynamic character. Mia was confused about her relationship with Adams as she was not sure about the direction of their relationship with him. Mia intended to attend the Julliard in New York; on the other hand, Adams wanted to stay in Oregon. This created a fear for Mia and she were afraid that distance will eventually affect make them apart. At one stage, Mia decided to try another instrument instead of Cello in order to appease her parents. As her family were against her and they all loved rock music. Therefore, she also decided to follow the footsteps of her parents. But when Mia falls in love with Adam and comes close to him, he advises her not to abandon playing Cello. Kim also played an important role in convincing Mia to carry on playing Cello. When Marie tries to ask the protagonist to take a walk, this action shows that she is trying to achieve Pauline’s dream by getting her outside of the house. Therefore, she could finally feel the true meaning of freedom. Nevertheless, Pauline’s mother’s response demonstrates that she wants her daughter’s safety more than anything. The mother tries to keep Pauline away from the danger, so the protagonist can at last have a healthier life. However, Agathe’s reply shows that her mother is willing to sacrifice Pauline’s dream to keep her secure. Therefore, the author uses contrasting characters to mention that safety is more valuable. Furthermore, the protagonist starts to describe Tante Marie and reveals that she always has her hair “around her shoulder” (85). When Pauline describes Marie, Pauline shows how her Tante is open-minded. In fact, Marie helps Pauline to let go of her limitations and to get a taste of her dream. I walk into Valley Forge. Winter 1777-78. As I walk in, an overwhelming feeling of emotions comes over me. Sadness, anger, hope, unwillingness, and happiness. I walk in a little bit further and I am greeted with many huts. These huts have no windows and only one door. I decide to peek into one of them and see 12 men inside. The huts are hard to see in because smoke has filled them. From another direction there is many men talking. I walk towards the noise and am surprised to see men sitting around a campfire eating small amounts of food. The men are talking about various things. Some are talking about their family, how they are excited that their duty is almost over, and some of the strong willed patriots who are willing to fight for their country are talking about how they are going to stay longer than they were sent to. As I keep wandering around the camp I find myself at an area with many men. These men are different than the men at the campfire. These men were the unlucky soldiers who had gotten sick. There is a soldier who is crying over another soldiers still body. Again I hear talking but this time it’s about how they need help caring for the sick and the soldiers that want to leave shouldn’t leave so they can help the sick. I shake off what I just witnessed and made the tough decision of staying. I would stay because they would need my help,

As with Ellen, Gibbons’ parents both died before she was twelve-years-old, forming the family. basis of the plot and themes of this novel. The fond memories she possessed of her mother and the harsh ones of her father are reflected in the thoughts and actions of Ellen. The simplistic and humble attitude that both Gibbons and Ellen epitomizes in the novel is portrayed through diction and dialogue.

The loss of innocence which Claudia faces unintentionally is vital to the role she plays in society and in her life. Her thoughts hold a more realistic view of life and human behavior. She sees the pains and sorrows that life truly is constructed of. Claudia feels that she has missed out on so many opportunities and is not included the way others are. Her strong character generates a feeling of both isolation and separation, but, in reality, she tastes life more closely than most people are able to in a lifetime. Although Claudia's passion to be included is unrequited, she is filled with the strength, character, and pain that make her a more knowledgeable and resilient person.
Before she knew it, Anna quickly got overtaken by this passion, and it ultimately led to her own demise, as the love that Vronsky had to offer quickly diminished. This became a problematic force since Anna practically gave up everything she owned to chase the life that this man offered her. She did it in such a manner that she could no longer return back to her family or normal lifestyle. In a way, she was victim to a lifeless marriage by which she found herself to pretend to be happy. The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to work but they still remain a close nit family. In addition, they even manage to stick together after being separated for one of their own. These show how even in the darkest time they still manage to find a glimmer of hope and they pursued on.
She used to live one way and now that she has to live another way she has decided that she wants to try new things. She begins to focus on herself instead of taking care of her family and their needs. She lost her child, and now her husband is a completely different person due to his accident. She started to see the world differently and I think that it shows through her hobbies. I think her hobbies show that she could feel differently about her husband. She used to take care of him, but now that he’s at home, she may feel like she needs time for herself. I think her hobbies shows that she’s more interested in taking care of herself and making changes that will eventually better her life. I think the conflict between the two shows greatly in their hobbies and interests. The accident clearly reversed their roles that they played in the family. If He Hollers Let Him Go by Chester Himes touches on many ideas of race relations: the tension between African Americans and whites, interracial sex, and the social stress that was put on by World War II. Alice, having lighter skin, uses it to her advantage and passes as a white woman. She always completely dismisses her black side to the point where she is not oppressed like other, darker skinned, African Americans. Madge, on the other hand, is a white woman and knows how to use that to her advantage as she gains power over Bob. Both characters use race as a way to describe their identity. One is powerful and another is hiding behind a mask. Another way that Alice and Madge are similar, are ashamed of reaching outside of their bubble.

The effectiveness of the mother’s guidance to her daughter is questioned since the girl cannot recognize the essence of her mother’s lesson.
