From their first time he lays his eyes on Sam, Charlie was already developing feelings for her as he writes about their first meeting saying "Sam had a very nice smile…. Experiencing the world or participating in it might not be the best idea for Charlie. He starts to see the world around him more clearly and how is it really like to live outside the box. When someone thinks too much it might lead them to be more aware of the violence or injustice in the world around them. Which may come as a shock to them and it may also reflect badly on them because they would not be able to stop themselves from thinking about it as Charlie describes
