What truly happened that morning in Miss. Narwin’s class? Here is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Philip wanted to be on the track team, but he was failing English, so he couldn’t try out. Then, Philip gets Miss. Narwin as his new homeroom teacher (hating her for falling him and not letting him try out for the track team) results him in wanting to figure out a way to get transferred out of her class. This caused Philip to hum during the National Anthem a time when it’s demanded to be quiet, which resulted in Philip getting sent to the assistant principal’s office. Then, Philip told the truth, and resulted into him being suspended. This caused chaos making him the subject of national media attention, which resulted in twisting things
Anthem is a book full to the brim of symbolism. Some of it is clear to see and others you have to really pay attention to capture. Anthem is not a hard book to understand, but it can still be difficult to grasp the full meaning of it. The meaning of which is elusive at points, slipping between your fingers and resting on the pages in plain view. Unity, we, I, Ego, it all plays a major part in this book along with the symbolism of things.
Fraser discussed his speech with three of his teachers. Two of the teachers testified at the trial that they informed Matthew the speech was "inappropriate and that he probably should not deliver it." They also mentioned that the speech might have "severe consequences," but none of the three suggested that the speech might violate a school rule. So Matthew gave his speech, during which a school counselor observed the reaction of students. Some hooted and yelled; others appeared to be bewildered and embarrassed by the speech. A Bethel High School disciplinary rule prohibited the use of obscene language in the school: Conduct which materially and substantially interferes with the educational process is prohibited, including the use of obscene, profane language or gestures. The morning after the assembly, the assistant principal called Matthew into her office and notified him that the school considered his speech to have been a violation of this rule. He entered with an attitude opposite of what he should have when getting questioned by the principal of Pittsburg High School, to account for his various misdemeanors. First, their was a big conflict inside the class room. Mr. Crawford was asking one of the students a question, and Jamal jumped in the conversation. Jamal was trying to help him out, so he told the boy to say his name, which was the answer to his question. Mr. Crawford was very angry. Mr. Crawford then tried to preach to Jamal by quoted some sayings. Mr. Crawford never got a chance to finish his sentence, because Jamal would finish them. Mr. Crawford then got mad. The word collectivism often makes people cringe. Overall, there is a general fear of not being able to make personal decisions in America. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, collectivism can be defined as; emphasis on collective rather than individual action or identity (“Collectivism”). In Anthem, Ayn Rand describes an extreme collectivist society. Although Anthem’s society seems extremely surreal, aspects of its collectivist society closely mirror today’s society.
Ayn Rand's Anthem shows us her view of our world united under what seems to be communist rule. For example their view of right and wrong; which Anthem portrays is a system of very strict rules which mainly make sure that everyone is involved in a collective role within the society in this system no one is considered an individual or that they can even think as an individual.

It is a rare conception where a human being is completely and utterly alone. One problem we tend to overlook due to our primitive ideals of staying as a group, is the fact of us becoming solely to that group. In the book Anthem ,by Ayn Rand, a man named Equality 7-2521 sees this problem evolve and how it becomes a nuisance to his society. The book has made me open my mind up to the ideals of doing things for yourself and not always for those around you. One morning the principal of the school call him to his office to gave him his speech what he had to said on the graduation because there will be white people present in the audience. “ I know that I’m not educated, professor, I said; but the people are coming to hear the students, and I won’t make a speech that you’ve written.”( pg. 174) Richard refuses to read anything but his own speech, against everyone's advice. Richard's family, friends, and classmates tell him to stay clear of difficulties and just present the principal’s speech, but he persistently refuses. As a result, he is rejected more than ever. Ironically, he is now considered to be even more evil, although he has responded to the part of himself which refuses to accept that judgment.
One of the issues that were brought up was an upset parent who mentioned that his child suffers from narcolepsy. He was addressing that he wants the school board to help him because he feels as if the principal is penalizing his daughter. He mentioned that the principal mentioned that he will penalize the girl because of her lateness.
