The People’s Princess “I knew what my job was; it was to go out and meet the people and love them.” These words were spoken by a woman who honestly cared about what people were going through and understood their suffering: Princess Diana. Even when she was going through the most terrible moments in her life, she was strong, positive and always willing to help others. She helped the poor, people with diseases, and children in need. Princess Diana didn’t act like royalty and she dedicated hundreds of hours to helping adults and children who were deprived of love and affection. She changed people’s minds and perspectives about the victims of horrid sicknesses and the less fortunate. Diana was born on July 1st of 1961 to an aristocratic family who links to the Royal Family. She was the fourth out of the five children of Edward John Spencer and Frances Spencer. Diana wasn’t academically outstanding but she did, however, demonstrate passion and love for ballet, music, and children. When Diana was young, her parents divorced and her father won the harsh battle for custody of the children. In 1981, Diana married Prince Charles at the age of 20. The couple had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. However, in the mid-1980s, tension started to appear in the marriage and they divorced in 1996. Throughout this period Diana appeared to be experiencing multiple health problems like depression and bulimia. Although she was going through these tough times, she remained strong and was committed to helping others. Diana never got tired of helping sick or disabled children and homeless people. She would visit children’s hospitals and try to spend as much time there as she could. She once said, “Hugs can do great amounts of good - especially ... ... middle of paper ... ...If it wasn’t for her, many more lives would have been lost because of the harmful consequences of landmines. Princess Diana wasn’t just an average princess. She helped hundreds of people and donated millions of dollars to charities and she understood people’s pain because she went through so much suffering herself. Her heart of gold led her to change the world’s perspective of sick or disabled children, the homeless, victims of HIV/ AIDS, and landmines. Although she died nearly 18 years ago, the world will always remember the legacy she left and how she showed kindness to everyone around her. Her lasting impact has caused many people to follow in her footsteps and share their love with the less fortunate. Although Diana was troubled with her own problems, she devoted her life to helping others and this is why she will always be remembered as the People’s Princess.
