An Analysis Of Charette's 'Broken Egg'

In the country of Spain, they use the proverb, “After all, to make a beautiful omelet, you have to break an egg”. In other words meaning, people must put in the effort to get the outcome wanted. As some background information, this proverb came during the French Revolution when Charette was captured by republican forces and put to trial. Charette referred to broken “eggs” as humans who work hard to meet their goal. In today's society, this proverb keeps the same meaning as it did when used by Charette. In order for a person to get something good or useful, they must put in the work. Everyone should realize that to reach their final goal, they must put in the effort. A person must put in determination and hard work until they reach their goal or they will never achieve it. The poem Daily, talks about hard work by stating, “This page I type and retype.” (Nye 650). To clarify, Nye talks about doing something frequently until it's to their liking or the liking of others. Typing a page then, retyping it continuously shows someone who works until they reach their liking or goal. Also, the outcome of something great is the effect of doing or working on it over and over again. The author of the poem Daily, Naomi Nye, wrote, “The clothes I wash and hand and wash again,” (Nye 650). Without a doubt, proving that working or doing something over and over again will be the cause of a great effect. In this quote, the clothes are washed until they are clean, good smelling, and perfect, just like a person would do with everything else they want to be good. Lastly, working on somethings far from great until you have worked on it for so long, then turning that bad into great. The quote, “This table I dust until the scarred wood shines” (Nye 650), is a great quote to describe determination. To put it another way, talking about taking pride in whatever you have and working with it over and over again until its great.
