Studies show that Americans are not fully aware of other cultures. It is very important to study different cultures to see the differences across the world. Although we all live in the same one World it is important for us to know that we all think and behave in different ways that one personally believes is acceptable- Culture. Culture does not have one direct definition as many people have their own definition and belief of what is true. It is important to become aware and respectful of others. When defining Ethics, it is very difficult to create a universal ethical standard. Ethics refers to the study of morality and standards of conduct. One must learn to make unbiased ethical decisions when making decisions.

To completely understand the motives behind the characters in the book I first had to research the Indian culture as I was uncertain and unfamiliar with it. The Indian culture to me is very different from the American culture. Indians use the right hand when accepting/ eating things they use the right hand only. In India bargaining is heavily practiced. This contrast with other traditions as many believe bargaining for goods or services is rude and uncompromising. Finally, it is important to remember that Indians are very tolerant of outsiders and understand that many are unfamiliar with local customs and procedures. Therefore, there is no need to make a phony attempt to conform to Indian cultural traditions. Being a business student it is important to know how to do successful business internationally. When doing business in India, one will find several other customs useful to know. It is required to be on time for meetings, avoid personal questions and respect titles. The Eastern Philosophy is the most common philosophy practiced in India. They tend to view ideals as part of nature instead of separate. Because different cultures exist in the world, an understanding of the impact of culture on behavior is critical to the study of international management. While growing up my grandparents and parents developed an image in my head of what a “family/ household” should look like. It consisted of a Husband, Wife and Children. Throughout my childhood, sinning was a common unethical topic spoken in my household specifically lying, cheating and having children out of wedlock. My grandparents and parents, both married couples always stated that to have children I must first find a boyfriend, and then get married. Anything out of this order was unacceptable. As I seen this chronological process growing up it became a norm to me. However, when other people in my community and friends of mine would tell me their parents were not married I often questioned both their ethical standard and my parent’s standards. Throughout the novel, it was very eye-opening to see many different ethical standards that differed with my own
