The story of how Noah and Allie fall in love has taken place during the 1940’s. Their Summer’s romance began during World War II in June. The few obstacles that Noah and Allie overcome are distance when Noah leaves for the war and when Allie’s mom does not want her to get close with Noah. The Notebook uses a relationship between Allie and Noah to demonstrate that undying love can overcome difficult obstacles.
Noah’s first obstacle is convincing Allie to go out with him at all. Noah first sees Allie at an Amusement park and asks her to dance with him. She says no, but Noah is not willing to give up so easily. Before Allie had to leave for the summer, they were standing in the house and were talking about what type of house Allie wanted after Noah built them a house to live in together. Now it is few years later with no contact and Noah’s dad hands him a check to rebuild the house he had visited when he was a teenager. This house was meant to be for Noah and Allie, so Noah builds it how Allie wanted it for his undying love for Allie. He spends days and nights building this house and painting it white with blue shutters and a porch that wraps all around the front.
