Aging has become an extremely important aspect of today’s society. The nations largest

generation, the Baby Boomers are now 50 and older. They’ve reached retirement age. Or what

was traditionally viewed as retirement age. They’re beginning to work longer since life

expectancy is longer. Silicon Valley has now gotten into the mix, trying to find new technology to

extend life and reduce the process of aging. New products and technology have increased life

expectancy and with that the Baby Boomers have started to work past the traditional retirement

age and into older age. With this comes strain and new obstacles to the current systems the

U.S. has in place.

Silicon Valley has started to add their input into the aging situation. Companies like

The interesting part is will

consumers be able to look forever young, or just be able to live longer. It seems as though the

fountain of youth is no longer in Florida, it’s in California outside of San Francisco and San Jose.

Will advertisers, marketers, and brands be able to not only keep up with an increasing, longer

living, consumer demand, but also be able to offer employment to those seeking employment?

What about our healthcare and social security system? Whether we have the system that can

sustain such unexpected increase is a tale that only time will tell.

The aging workforce presents another problem. Some companies are pushing out older

workers to make room for “tech savvy” Millennials. Then there are others like CVS/Caremark

who are creating programs to keep older workers within the company. CVS is offering a

program to its older workers to move south, to warmer weather from the cold north.2 New

programs such as these have created a delay in retirement age. The average age of
