Some teenagers or children of the twenty-first century live their lives by the saying "you only live once" in the hope their lives will become exciting. They arrogantly ignore age limits that were created to protect them from the impacts of living by this widely misunderstood expression. This attitude towards age limits is stupid and irresponsible; only life threatening consequences will come from their arrogance. Everyone should take responsibility to guard the childhood of many from the negative impacts of age-restricted material by taking age limits seriously.
By taking age limits seriously, we can prevent a negative consequence known as addiction. Age limits exist to prevent immature children from being exposed to addictive substances such as drugs and alcohol, or games that easily hook a weak mind. Addiction can successfully mislead a child's life because in some cases the immature mind is unable to differentiate between right and wrong as the drive to take part in an activity or vice is too powerful. An example of this would be how some youth gamers develop a strong desire to play a restricted game because they enjoy exposure to new alien themes a game portrays. Constant exposure to violence or sexual references could destroy the mind of children under aged as they become accustomed to these themes, therefore they might consider violence or sexual abuse acceptable in society. As a consequence, children with this mindset might grow up to be druggies or perverts if their addictions fail to disappear. I believe people should just take age limits seriously to prevent the lives of children from being poisoned by age restricted material, allowing them to have a more successful future.

If there are only a few thousand who are widely educated, who will tend to the needs of billions of people? This amount of doctors or teachers is simply not enough, which means age limits must be followed to allow new educated people to take over important roles in society.
Age limits are often taken for granted by many children and parents who have not experienced the regretful consequences of age restricted materials. People must form good habits towards age limits to prevent experiencing negative impacts. Not only can following age limits improve the lives of families, but can also improve the economic stability and survival of the human race. It is time to stop being arrogant towards age limits so people can have the chance of living better futures.
This issue hit home for me because it puts many people at risk for things such as car accidents, binge drinking, alcoholism, depression, suicide, and rape, things no one should ever experience, let alone in middle or high school. These reasons are why the legal age to purchase, and consume alcohol should remain at 21 years of age.
In today’s world of multimedia it has become extremely hard to avoid the introduction of adult themes to younger children, who lack the maturity to process and question the information. Young people are bombarded continually with unsuitable and undesirable concepts that give false images of acceptable behavior. Music, movies, television, internet and video games are accredited with the moral deterioration of present day youth. Great strides have been made to establish rating guidelines, parental controls and warning labels that assist adults in making informed choices on what their children should or should not be able to access but they are not perfect.
Almost everyone has an opinion on what the drinking age should be. Some people believe that it should stay at 21. However, others argue that it should be lowered for the sake of teen safety. The opposition to lowering the drinking age backs their argument with science. Advocates of keeping the drinking age above twenty one believe that alcohol causes permanent damage to the still-developing brains of teenagers. This group of people includes scientists such as Susanne Hiller-Sturmhöfel, and H. Scott Swartzwelder, who have conducted scientific trials studying the effects alcohol has on the human brain. On the other hand, proponents of lowering the drinking age believe that the pros outweigh the cons of their story. To this group of people, including Ruth C. Engs, lowering the drinking age will come with restrictions still, although most of the restrictions will help educate young people about alcohol in the hopes of preventing alcohol related deaths.
Should the legal alcohol drinking age be lowered to eighteen? At the age of eighteen years old, you are eligible to vote, you can legally purchase cigarettes, you are eligible for the military draft, you are willing to die for this country, you are even able to serve on a jury, and you are titled as an adult at the age of eighteen. Why can’t someone at the age of eighteen not drink alcohol? Who is to say that just because someone is twenty-one years of age means that they are wise enough to drink alcohol in an accountable conduct? There are several explanations why one ought to be able to drink alcohol at the age of eighteen.

Teens today do things they know could get them into major trouble, such as going to parties, smoking and drinking. So why would people today want to have this problem, well it started when the age for drinking alcohol got raised to 21 years of age. Teens though that since the age was raised to such a high level and they could get married, sign contracts, join the army. That they could also drink, teens started going to parties then the drove home drunk so the law wouldn’t know, that they had been drinking (cons to the drinking age 10). The people thought that if they raised the age of drinking, drinking would go down and less accidents would happen. Well that didn’t go as planned it help in some states. Others the law has not really helped. Some states have made a proposal to lower the drinking age, all are similar , but different one state in particular to lowering the age is Missouri. As G.K. Chesterton said “The free man owns himself.He can damage himself with either eating or drinking;he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a fool and he might possibly be a damned soul;but if he may not, he is not a free man anymore than a dog.” So lowering the drinking age would make people free to damage yourselves.
In order to break through the status quo of poverty for generations, there needs to be more efficiency on education. In our current society, establishments would rather hire someone who well qualified with college degree rather than just a high school education. Despite the problems that would arise, many people are beginning to feel that the drinking age should be lowered from twenty-one to eighteen. Studies have been made; however, no hard evidence suggesting lowering the minimum drinking age would help have surfaced. Although there are countless studies of how alcohol has many harmful effects on teenagers, there is a great deal of negative criticism about what if the drinking age is lowered. Some would say the morally right decision is to not allow teens the chance to hurt themselves. Everyone is entitled to having his or her own opinions and beliefs. However, the overall health of the youth of our country seems a little more important than some personal belief. The drinking age should not be lowered due to the fact drunk driving, juvenile delinquency, and alcohol-related medical issues related to teens will increase.

I suppose I believed some sort of freedom would be granted to me just because I turned another year older, however that was not the case. I did not gain any more freedom. By law I am legally an adult, but to my parents and society I am still just a kid. The more I think about it the more I realize I still am just a child; I just want to deny it most of the time. Video games are a rapidly growing industry. There are nearly two games sold for every household in America each year (Anders 271). The vast majority of these are sold to adults, but there is no national law that prohibits minors from buying violent video games. A few states have legislation pending that will prevent this, but the fact is that minors do have access to violent video games. There is a voluntary rating system implemented by the ESRB, where games are rated based on their content. The games that are rated Mature are not supposed to be sold to anyone under seventeen and Adults Only titles, but “some retailers do not impose such limitations” (Anders 271). The bottom line is that minors do have access to these violent games.
Violent video games have become more realistic every year. Children spend about 40 hours seated in front of a screen killing cartoon characters. It has been debated whether minors under the age of 18 should play violent video games that contain physical harm, killing, and sexual assault. In the contrary, people say video games increases the capacity of learning of children, but violent video games cause great damages. Although there are an increase learning skills playing video games, violent video games should be prohibited to minors because it changes an individual behavior, physical, and brain.
To quote a phrase from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, "Make me the master of education, and I will undertake to change the world." If we are to change the world simply because we have and continue to acquire the education necessary to increase knowledge; we must never forget education along without the practice of inducing what is learned is not enough to produce attainable results favorable to sustain a society in the 21st century. We must become the voice of the people by getting involved to make a difference in the world by putting into motion what we have learned.
