The final way a parent might pass is by suicide or if someone else is after the parent, meaning that some else has planned their passing. When a parent takes his or her own life due to maybe depression or another illness, this leaves the child thinking it was their fault. When parent commits suicide or pass unusually, the child does not know what is really happening in their parent’s life. With a parent passing in this tragic way, it leaves the child in constant confusion of why they decided to take their life.If the parent keeps everything to themselves, and he or she does not have an open relationship with his or her child, it can leave the child in great worry for what is truly going on in their parent’s life. For example the Cinderella story exhibits this way of living. Charles Perrault, writer of Mother Goose Tales, gives the typical version of the Cinderella story. After Cinderella’s mother passed, she then lived with only her father. Then her father got remarried to a woman who had also lost her love her one. Soon after the marriage the father drew ill and passed.Cinderella then immediately became the maid for the stepsisters and stepmother. (Perrault 273). Cinderella shows that without her father by her side she loses all her power. She became the one who must answer to the beck and call of the step family. This is the same that could happen for any child. They are once on top of the world and then lose the parent and they become nothing to the step parent. This is where the child is seen to act out, whether it be a good or bad acting out. From Cinderella’s story, she had a good acting out and followed all that she could for the step family. Then there are kids who can not fully understand and accept the fact that their parent is gone and go against the authority. With this going against authority “it is, rather, a sign of unbridled egotism” (Dalrymple 122). This showing that the child is not able to fully follow the rules due to their ways of thinking before their parents passed. Both Perrault and Fromm are able to help better understand the way Cinderella and others will act towards society after the loss of a parent. Perrault although is more of the general story of Cinderella, when Fromm is explaining the reasons why people are disobedient.
