From several scholars point of view, it is believed that virtue will likely appropriate to be applied in public sectors. The virtue ethics was adopted first by Aristotle (Lawton 1998). Virtue ethics is not to questioning the consequences of an action nor the moral judgments obligations in the universal moral order. Virtue ethics prioritise the development of moral character, motivations, and intentions in every person (Trevino & Nelson 2010). Furthermore, virtue ethics emphasises the importance of history, folklore and puppet story. Regarding to this, especially the history of moral prowess and the great role model of folklore and poets, we learn about values and priorities, then seek to live out and practice it just like the character in the …show more content…

Then it delivered the messages, values and moral virtues in order to be replicated and internalised by the members of the society. People also learn from the example of real character, a leader or a respected person in the community. There is a real example that can be followed and from there the moral behaviour spread out to numerous people. The virtue ethics approach is not taught through indoctrination, commands and prohibitions, but from the role models, particularly in determining the attitude in a dilemmatic situation. According to Lawton (1998, p.42) in some ways, “the virtue ethics can be seen in terms of the characteristics that we believe to make a good manager or a good person”. To become a good manager Trevino et al. (2000) suggested three ways: become a role model, able to communicate ethics, and able to employ a fair reward system. Interesting part from the virtue ethics is that we need to build character and moral personality. Firstly, in a pluralistic society, there will be various moral virtues that vary according to the source of culture and religion, or stories and history that are taught. As explained by Solomon (1999, p. 36), “the society change that not necessarily for the better, the virtues will change too”. In modern society where the stories, especially folklore, they had no place, virtue could lose its relevance. Secondly, in a society which is hard to find presence of public figure that could be an example of morality, virtue would easily disappear from the society.
