Reconciling with Britain Staying and reconciling with Great Britain would have many advantages to the Americans. Preventing war would settle and America's trade would develop with having the relationship with Britain. Obtaining prevented war and good trade would bring emigrants to America and begin to populate. Population would advance the land and begin to raise the value of the land. By reconciling with Great Britain, preventing war would bring peace throughout America and Britain. Having peace between the two colonies would have brought immigrants to migrate in the colony. Emigrants do not want to live anywhere that is in constant war, they want to live somewhere there is peace. Staying and preventing war would also continue to build strong
When the war began, it was being fought by the Americans to address their grievances toward the British. This seemed like a justifiable cause for a war, however not all of the citizens shared the same sense of unity about the political issues the war was being fought over. The US was quite upset about the continuing impressment of American sailors into the British Navy and the seizures of American merchant trading vessels by the British. Another reason the United States wished to go to war with Britain was because of their dealings with the Indians in the West. The British were not only trading with the Indians, but they were also giving them weapons and encouraging them to attack American settlements. Along with these reasons, the Americans, now becoming hungry for land, dreamed of capturing British Canada and possibly Florida for the union. Also, the Americans still contained a certain degree of resentment from the Revolutionary War, which they were eager to take out on the British. Even though these were the causes the nation was supposedly fighting for, the entire nation lacked a major driving force to gain restitution for them. The nation was not really united for the cause, as backcountry farmers didn't care about what was happening to coastal shipping businesses, as coastal shipping businesses didn't care about what was happening to the backcountry farmers. Everyone was only concerned with their own problems, and not concerned with the problems facing the nation regarding the situations its citizens were enduring.
The main reason for the severance of the colonies from Britain was the lack of equality in parliament and the disregard for colonial needs. Whether it be forcing someone to pay for a war they did not fight or want, limiting one’s need for land, or piling on the taxes, all of these factors played a part in the dissolving of British-colonial ties. The colonists were only human and had the human reaction of defiance to injustice. If the colonists had not of had the audacity that they did, today’s America would be a very different place. Breaking away from Britain was the greatest thing the colonists could have possible done.
Their need to make peace made them write a petition that tributed a man they deemed despicable. King George III was their enemy, on the contrary after reading the plea one would say he was a “great man” crucial to the colonists. In the king’s lense, The Olive Branch Petition may have seemed as fragility, demonstrating the desperation of the people, he was not amenable to fulfill. In addition, they state they are connected with Britain by unbreakable ties, which is ironic because the sole purpose of fleeing was independence. The Olive Branch Petition was their last endeavor to make truce peacefully; thus, the American Revolution was waged as a war of last resort. Also, the colonists constantly mention the benefits of being an ally with Britain, depicting that it was not their first choice to conduct a war. Adversity was at such level that they risked destabilizing their economy and their comfort to be free. They did not want to be isolated from great Britain because they considered them as the roots from which they sprouted. In fact, many Americans did not want war, but instead just wanted to have the same rights as a British man. They felt like their rights were being abused and the only way left to fix that problem was war. The division between the British Empire and her colonies was brewing. Things started to look up when the Stamp Act was repealed.
The Thirteen Colonies knew that a direct war with Britain would end up as a loss for the Colonies who were just developing at the time. While Britain was the strongest country at the time. Britain had the advantage in technology and stronger and more numerous men. The Colonies knew this, however, the French, angry at the loss of the French and Indian war, would be able to help defeat Britain. The French and Indian war left Great Britain with debt. The British then began to tax the colonies. The colonists were unhappy with this taxation because they were being taxed without representation. One act that lead to tensions was the Tea Act. There were several British actions that caused colonial reactions, eventually leading to the formation of the United States.
The French and Indian War and its aftermath ruined the political relationship between Britain and the colonies. After dominating most of North America (Doc. A), Britain decided to tax the colonies even more to help pay for the war. This took a major toll on the relationship between Britain and the American colonies because this lead to the Proclamation of 1763. The Native Americans (Doc. B) believed “they have no Right to settle” which means they didn’t want anyone settling on their land. In (Doc. C) George Washington is asking Robert Orme to have more power and rank higher in the military. Another political change was Britain’s relinquishment of the salutary neglect policy. They put stricter rules on trade and forced taxes on frequently used items. These changes (Doc. F) angered the colonists.

The colonies joined up together to send out supplies to a city in need, which really showed that Americans were united. The colonists were ready to help each other out when they needed to and worked well together to get their point across to Britain.

In the end, the rejection of the Olive branch represented a watershed in the evolution of a national identity that was completely independent of a British identity, for its dismissal stiffened the patriots’ resolve toward independence and paved the way for the penning of a much more famous letter to the king, the Declaration of Independence.

When settlers from England came to America, they envisioned a Utopia, where they would have a say in what the government can and cannot do. Before they could live in such a society they would have to take many small steps to break the hold England had on them. The settlers of America had to end a monarchy and start their own, unique, form of government. They also had to find a way that they would have some kind of decision making power. The most important change that the colonies in America had to make was to become a society quite different from that in England.
From 1754-1763, Britain fought the French and Indian war. Although Britain had won the war, they still had a lot of war debts to pay off. Britain turned to the colonies to pay off their debts by taxing them. The taxes angered the colonists because they believed it violated their rights. Benjamin Franklin had initially proposed the Albany plan of Union to unite the colonies, however this law was rejected by all of the colonial governments. It wasn't until after all of the British laws and taxes that the colonies would unite and write the Declaration of Independence.
To begin with, I’m almost certain that a careful diplomacy could of easily prevented the war. If the British took the colonists opinion into consideration and had just repealed all the taxes, and offensive Acts and apologized, the US wouldn't have gone into a war they were probably going to lose. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and the British weren’t going to give the colonists the independence they sought for, but if they would have the war would easily have been avoided.
The war increased the country's nationalism and united its people. It industrialized it, turning it into a modern nation. The war also made the country safer, as it would not be forced to wage war on a strong country for a long time. It does not matter that the Treaty of Ghent did not mention any of the issues that had pressed the United States to war with Great Britain, because after the War of 1812, Napoleon's Empire was lost and Britain no longer felt threatened by the Americans allying France. Impressions stopped and the Orders in Council were not enforced until they were silently revoked.

It was a determined and eventually successful attempt by the British to get a dominant position in North America, the West Indies, and the subcontinent of India. Although Britain had won all this land, political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies were totally annihilated.
