Drug misuse and crimes in United Kingdom. Drug related crimes are crimes that are directly or indirectly connected to the use of drugs. Such crime can be possession of the drug, supply of it as in gangs or committing crime for money for drugs, committing a crime under the influence of drugs and other. Drug is the problem in the United Kingdom because they are leaders in consumption of hard, illegal drug. As the result after taking drugs and alcohol, user commit crime, which is the most common way of breaking laws. UK has a population of around 64 million people, out of which 87.1% are White and 3% are originally from Africa. Especially from the time of the end of the cold war, England faced great problems with drug usage. Beforehand, United Kingdom passed a ‘‘Misuse of Drugs Act’’ in 1971, which classified drugs by Class A, B and C, as well as set rules on possession and supply or intend to supply of the drugs (1). The differences between those classes were the punishments that followed after a certain drug was found as well as the amount of harm one drug can do. Drugs as Cocaine, Heroin, LSD were placed in Class A. Possession of the drug will lead to imprisonment of maximum seven years and/or fine of £5,000 and higher; intent supply or supply of the drug leads to life sentence maximum and/or fine of £5,000 or more. In Class B, there are drugs as Cannabis, Amphetamine, Codeine and possession of those drugs will lead to imprisonment of maximum five years and/or fine of £2,500 and higher; intent supply or supply of the drugs leads to imprisonment for l4 years and/or fine of £5,000 or more. In Class C, there are drugs as Temazepam, Tranquilizers and Valium. Possession of those drugs will lead to imprisonment of maximum two years a... ... middle of paper ... ...dictions, the need for drugs are higher, as they have no income or very little, they cannot afford some drugs, therefore steal from others, brake into houses and commit many other crimes. As a result, the drug users get into prison, and even though there are rehabilitation programs as well as people who help them get through and get back into society, only short term positive effect is guaranteed. Their families, children suffer and other relationships break, causing children to not attend schools and get education. In the end, it results in children repeating the same mistakes as their parents. If the drug laws become more strict, it will only result in more drug related crimes, because the prices of the drugs will go up. Keeping the drug sell and distribution under control is also a hard job, but United Kingdom showed a progress in lowering drug related crimes.
