Conspiracy means a plan by an organization or group of people to case harm or do something unlawful. Conspiracy Theory is when people believe that a conspiracy was done such as when people think the moon landing as a conspiracy or fake, that would be an example of a conspiracy theory. The assassination of the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was done at a very important and crucial time. John Wilkes Booth, an American actor from Maryland and a supporter of the South shot and killed Lincoln during a play at Ford’s Theatre, D.C. on April 14th, 1865. First of all, John Booth was originally going to kidnap Lincoln instead of killing him. Before the Confederacy ended, Booth was going to use Lincoln to get back Southern soldiers from the North, but the plans failed and after the surrender of Robert E. Lee, Booth decided to kill Lincoln. Ulysses S. Grant was supposed to be at the play with Lincoln, but a feud between Lincoln’s wife and Grant’s wife made the Grants not able to watch the play with the Lincoln’s. There were more people supposed to die than just Lincoln, Ulysses Grant was supposed to die but he didn’t attend. William Seward and Andrew Johnson were supposed to be killed to decapitate the government. Johnson’s murderer chickened out at the last minute and didn’t go through with his act. Seward was attacked in his bed, recovering from a carriage accident and unable to defend himself, he was stabbed multiple times and somehow survived. Lincoln’s guests had also ended their lives in misfortune. Lincoln’s wife was institutionalized after the event some years later. The guest’s that replaced Ulysses and his wife were Major Henry Rathbone and his fiancée Clara Harris, Rathbone was cut badly in the arm but survived. He later killed Clara after marrying her and then himself, but he survived the knife again and lived out his days in an asylum. There are theories that involved Fidel Castro, the KGB, the CIA, the mafia, and even the vice president. Many theories also believe that the U.S. government covered up the aftermath of the assassination. There were more theories, such as more than just Lee H. Oswald. There seemed to have been multiple directions that the President was shot from, but these have been falsified. Another theory is that the CIA used the MK-ULTRA program to brainwash Oswald into killing the President for pulling air support in CIA missions in Cuba. Another theory is the umbrella man, there was a man with an umbrella despite the nice weather and theorists suspect he had an umbrella-weapon, but he could have just been blocking the sun. Some speculate the involvement of the Soviet Union and Cuba because they were competing with their Communist governments with the United States’ Capitalistic government. The most far fetched and honestly stupid theory is that Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, was involved, this was supported by Donald Trump during the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign. These have been found to be false and quite outlandish theories, but people use them to help understand or to support their beliefs as many people do, but they took the ideas too far and changed the entire story to fuel their paranoia driven
