The Controversial Topic of Abortion
“I laid down and began to cry. They asked me what was wrong and I told them I did not want to do this. I changed my mind. I wanted up. The doctor began to tell me I didn't need a baby and that I had my whole life ahead of me. I began to cry harder and they strapped me down. I asked them to please unstrap me and let me leave. The anesthesia was administered and I fell asleep to the sound of their laughter. When I woke up, I was hurting physically as well as emotionally.” This is the heartbreaking story of a then seventeen year old Cheryle. However, now it all depends on your age and what state you live in. Some states have no laws about telling your parents/guardians or getting their permission. Other states say you have to get permission from a parent or older family member. In Iowa, the law states that it is Jackson 2 required of the teen to tell one of their parents or a grandparent of their decision forty-eight hours before their abortion. Parental involvement plays a big factor in teen abortion. The first being pro-choice. People who believe in pro-choice advocate for complete legalization of abortion. They presume that outlawing abortions can cause danger. This will push women and teens to opt for the procedure through illegal means. These unsafe abortions can cause many severe health hazards for women. Pro-abortionists also argue that scientists have not yet determined the beginning of life. Therefor it is not seen as murder in their eyes. They claim that a woman should have a right to privacy and should decide what happens to her own body. It is stated in the constitution that we are guaranteed the right to privacy. Pro-choice believers insist that an abortion can help younger women lead better and more productive lives.
The second side of abortion is pro-life. Pro-life means opposing abortion. Anti-abortionists argue that abortion is immoral and unethical- that it is considered murder. We are all horrified by stories in the news of parents murdering their own children. Abortion is no different. Religion is a large reason that some individuals agree with pro-life. Hinduism claims that abortion should be outlawed except in the case of rape. Buddhism takes a similar outlook and claims that abortion is murder. However it also states that each case should be individually analyzed. Islam considers abortion
