I think Abigail Adams was not very smart when she was a child. She was born in 1744 in Massachusetts. Abigail was very interested in learning when she was a little girl, but they expected the girls to learn to be wives and run the household while the boys learned reading, writing, Latin, and arithmetics. “Abigail and her sister never received any formal education, and Abigail thought this was unfair” (Somervill22) This quote shows how Abigail Adams was not taught as a little girl even though she wanted to be.

I wonder if it was hard for families back then every time they lost a child to diseases. When Abigail Adams had her second child named Susanna, she was welcomed into the family then died from being sick at the age of 13 months old. In the text it states that “Far too many families lost at least one child to diseases like smallpox, chicken pox, diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella, aor the flu.” (Somervill36) This quote shows that not many people could save their dying children because the doctors did not have the medical knowledge that doctors have today.
