I want you to open my garage and look inside. From where you are, that might be a little difficult, so pay close attention, because in my garage, this is what you will see: You will see one Grizzly 14” bandsaw. I have experienced the fatiguing pain of sawing lumber by hand, so when I finally purchased this bandsaw, it felt like Christmas; that is, if Chirstmas depleted my savings and required hours of surfing on Craigslist and several visits to the local Home Depot clearance section. I even had to buy three minor replacement parts and spend four afternoon fixing the blade tensioner. Nonetheless, I couldn’t be more proud with this purchase because I saved over $250 dollars from the retail price. To some, $250 may not be worth the effort, but I had no other choice: I didn’t want to depend on my parents to fund my hobby. These were the first tools I ever added to my garage, and they were bought at Walmart and on Ebay -the stores that offer some of the cheapest woodworking tools. I was motivated to buy these tools when I watched a hobbyist crave his own traditional bow and arrow. The transformation of an ordinary wood plank into a deadly weapon capable of projecting an arrow over 140 fps entranced my middle school mind. When I finally started to build my own bow, the teeth on the tools were frustratingly blunt and skidded on my red oak board. To add to the burden, I had no way to secure the board down; “a bench vise would be nice,” I remembered thinking. Although I severely lacked woodworking tools, I endured the hours of slow progress and crafted a unsymmetrical and barely functional bow.
