A Summary Of Alisa's Study Group

The people whom I surveyed were Alisa Bruzonsky and Steve Bruzonsky. Alisa talked about all of the study groups she participated in while she attended Arizona State University. Steve talked about social groups; he has a sound club he goes to once a month. There weren’t any similarities between these two groups, but the differences were in social groups they get together for fun and to talk about their interests. While, in study groups, they participate because they’re either forced to or they have to in order to pass their classes. In Alisa’s study group, each person collaborated in enforcing the groups’ norms. For instance, if a few people slack of, usually, one or two people of that group has to pick up their slack of finishing the assignment. …show more content…

The meaning of power is to control people to do what they want; almost like hypnotism, they get everyone to believe what they believe and enforce it. Status is when people in your group know that the leader is good at what they do, or maybe even someone’s boss. Since the group members in Alisa’s group knew that she was really good at being the leader and taking charge; she immediately becomes the one everyone went to for help. Ultimately, this predicament led to everyone slacking off in their work and putting the stress and anxiety on Alisa. If Alisa had more power, it would have helped her out and put everyone in their place for slacking off. In Steve’s social group, some people of a lot of power in manipulating ideas and views of their own on other people. His group could defiantly use some people with status; so people can look up to them and agree with them without forcing their …show more content…

Alisa would be in phase three Emergence, because everything gets done according to plan when people are working together in her group. For example, if Alisa is assigned the leader position, she plans out the schedule of who does what and there is collaboration in the group which makes things happen. Steve would definitely have to be in phase two Conflict, because of every person interested in the topic; they have different views and opinions about the topic. For example, someone in his group might have a completely different ways about hooking up his surround sound system and then someone else might interrupt before one person has finished talking and say “No, no, that’s not the right way to do it.” One of these two examples has it right and the other one really needs to rethink their approach the social
