Nobody is safe from love. This is a fact that William Shakespeare demonstrates in his play "A Midsummers Night's Dream." In this play, all characters transform by the power of love in its various forms. It is inevitable that all people will be transformed by love at some point, but ultimately, it is up to the person transformed to decide what to make of the transformation whether that be for better, or for worse.
One of the main conflicts in “A Midsummers Night’s Dream” is romantic love, and the jealousy that arises from the romantic love. Egeus believed he was acting in his daughter’s best interest and is only doing so out of love for her. Egeus' intention becomes clear when Egeus states "Thou (Lysander) hast by moonlight at her window sung / with feigning voice verses of feigning love, / and stol'n the impression of her fantasy" (I, i, 30-32). This line states that Egeus is worried that Lysander has stolen his daughter's love through trickery and deceit. This is an example of a negative type of transformation that can occurred because of parental love. Because parental love is what blinds Egeus from seeing that Lysander and Hermia shared true love. A positive example of parental love when Theseus is willing to ignore the law and change his decision about Hermia and Lysander being able to marry, "Fair lovers, you are fortunately met. / Of this discourse we more will hear anon. / Egeus, I will overbear your will; / For in the temple, by and by, with us / These couples shall eternally be knit" (IV, i, 170-174).
