A Critique On Materials Management Model For Perishable Products I. Summary

The article by Deekimching, Moreno and Siy is about the development of a model for a manufacturing company so that it will be able to increase its profit due to reduction of costs related to the product and spoilages that takes place as well. The study wishes to accomplish that by analyzing three important factors that contribute to the said costs. These factors are the production costs; which is related to the processing of the raw materials, the distribution costs; which relates to the delivery of the finished goods to its customers and lastly, the vehicle routing system; which would enable the transport costs to be lowered by finding the optimal routes for the delivery to its customers.

The study aims to achieve the said objective by combining the three important factors that were mentioned. This was done because no existing studies managed to incorporate all three important factors, which was seen by the authors as critical to a company’s costs.
